For te final illustration of our living dinosaurs mini series we have a spectacular animal. Do you know what it is? A fish unlike any other that defied evolution, millions of years old, discovered living freely on 100 meters or more in South Africa. The real LIVING DINOSAUR. #dinosaurs
Continuing our LIVING FOSSILS miniseries here is another very interesting creature who has lived in oceans way before we appeared on this planet. Any idea what it might be? Fun fact is that its name comes from nothing that it actually is...🤔. Yes its a HORSESHOE CRAB but its neither a crab nor does it really resemble a horseshoe...In reality these are kind of ancient 450mln years old crustaceans which are actually closer related to arachnids so more like dinosaur spiders🕷🕸🦀. One more very interesting but also sad fact about them is that their blood is literally blue and known to be sought after for medicinal purposes. #dinosaur
Do you know the name of this massive shark if the one smaller in the corner is a Great White Shark🦈🦈😲? We are starting another small miniseries, this time with prehistoric ocean animals that actually still live to this day in our oceans, or don't they🤔🤨? This massive shark is a relict of times long gone but every now and again a sighting or a story about it pops up somewhere on the planet. There is some evidence, there is much rumour and there are TV shows about it!!! So interesting 🦈 #sharks
Surprising indeed to learn that this amazing BLUE SEA SLUG aka SEA SWALLOW or BLUE DRAGON is a slug that lives in the open ocean - is pelagic. It drifts with the currents preying mostly on Portugese Man-Of-War - check out our 3rd post back to see it 😊. Its striking coloration is purposeful as it employs 'countershading' a type of camouflage technique which prevents from being seen from above and underneath in the blue ocean. Incredible marine creature 😉. #seaslug
Have a great New Years Eve everyone. Here is our best nine postos of 2018, a mix of illustrations and animations we have introduced not so long ago. Hope you are enjoying our content so far and wishing you all the best in the coming year and stay tuned for some upcoming cool ideas we are busy working on. #bestnine2018
A little late but its here, our own underwater CHRISTMAS TREE WORM! Yes these two small #christmastree
like creatures are actually a kind of marine worms or in fact just the feeding and respiration parts of the worm which is usually hidden inside a hole that it bore inside a hard coral structure. They come in many different colors. Merry Christmas everyone 😀.
Hey turtle time! The LOGGERHEAD SEA TURTLE is the world's largest hard-shelled turtle and a curious behaviour has been observed. Unlike any other turtles this species can be territorial and actually fight with one another for best feeding grounds hence comes a perfect idiom for our illustration 😁. #turtles
or not🤔? This is one insane marine creature 😨. PORTUGESE MAN-OF-WAR (a 18th-century warship) aka FLOATING TERROR is not a jellyfish even though it looks and behaves just like one. As a matter of fact it is a colonial organism made up of specialized individual animals (polyps) connected with each other and floating on the ocean surface as one. It can sting with venom just like jellyfish and preys on small fish getting paralyzed by its tentacles. Not deadly for humans but painful enough to avoid by a wide berth😉.
Name two marine creatures you can see here🤔. For this illustration we used a very important color from the ocean world which has been chosen as the color of the upcoming year 2019 by gurus of all colors - @pantone
. Awesome! It is certainly cool news for us, as illustrators of the underwater realm we get a lot of inspiration from all incredible marine creatures that live beneath the waves. This choice is also great for highlighting coral reefs conservation efforts that are very important in these times of many challenges which these unique environments face. Well done Pantone 😀. #coloroftheyear
JELLYFISH have roamed the seas for at least 500 MILLION years and possibly more😮. Being extremely adaptive they are one of the oldest multi-organ animal to live on our planet. There are hundreds of jelly species from tiny few cm ones to massive 2 meter big ones and most sting via millions of tiny needles piercing the skin of its prey and injecting various potency venom. We will be featuring some of the most interesting species at some point so stay tuned😊. #jellyfish
This BLUESPOTTED RIBBONTAIL RAY got the name from its striking coloration. Generally docile, its spends most of the time hidden among coral formations of most tropical coral reefs in the world. While it is usually unfazed, when really threatened, in defence, it can use small but venomous tail spines capable of inflicting excruciating pain. Yet while scuba diving you can often approach it very close, no worries 😊. #stingray
Meet the scourge of otherwise rather cute coral reef world. CROWN-OF-THORNS STARFISH is one of the nastiest creatures in the ocean world as all coral polyps are totally terrified of it and its not like they can really run away...😕 This starfish can consume on avg 6 square meters of live coral reef a year and it does it by climbing on top of mostly hard corals and extruding its stomach out through its mouth over the surface of the coral. Special digestive enzymes liquify the coral tissue and starfish can absorb all the nutrients (live coral polyps). So disgusting its even hard to write this post 😨. To add to it this starfish does not have many predators because of its spines and is credited with much damage to certain reefs out there. #starfish
Love them or hate them LIONFISH are a spectacular looking predator fish. Through their insatiable appetite they can become an invasive species in certain regions and cause total havoc on local reefs eating everything in sight. In other areas they are a beautiful add-on to local marine ecosystem and a pleasure to look at. #lionfish
Did you know that the GREAT WHITE SHARK, a top apex predator, is not really on the top of ocean food chain🤔🦈? Killer whales 🐬 are known to hunt and kill Great White sharks!!! How crazy is that 🤔...#greatwhiteshark
Can you count how many HAMMERHEAD SHARKS are there in our #shark
animation🦈🦈🦈? Do you know of a good place in the world to see so many of them while scuba diving🤔?
Aren't MANTA RAYS the most mesmerizing ocean creatures? Our animation will hopefully wow you and make you want to be in this diver's place! Who wouldn't want to be 😀😁😎. #manta
Our deep sea ghost wishes #happyhalloween
to everyone😀👻! Do you know what kind of actual creature this is🤔? It lives in the deepest and darkest parts of the ocean, only seldom found by scientific exploration submarines. To us it looks both cute and ghostly, perfect for Halloween 😀😨👻. Have fun.
Who doesn't like these cute flightless marine birds 🐧? Like all other penguins GENTOO PENGUINS probably also dream of being able to fly 😉 yet nature gave them a different amazing skill which is swimming in the ocean at great speeds even more than 30km/h or 22mph! This is badly needed to be able to avoid their skillful predators like orcas, leopard seals and sea lions. While they live in the frozen Antarctic their breeding colonies are located in ice free sub-Antarctic islands. #birds
