What a way to finish the year 😊
I got invited onto @bbcspotlight
last week to do a piece which I thought was just a kinda ‘round up of the year’ type thing and halfway through the interview I was surprised with the BBC South West Sports Personality Of The Year Award from my time at @invictusgames2018
It was quite hard to keep it a secret for an entire week but somehow we managed it.
I’m sitting down tomorrow to start planning 2019 & reflect on 2018 and I can’t wait. It’s been such a great year I’m really looking forward to chilling out and going over the highlights but also taking the time to appreciate all the people who helped to get me here.
I’m very lucky in that I have so much help and support from my friends and family in all areas of my life and you all know I appreciate it all but in this post I’d like to give a ‘special sports specific shoutout’ to all of my coaches, team and training partners at The Invictus Games. The time, dedication, coaching, mentoring, training, guidance, support and empowerment that you gave was HUGE and has helped me and my family to create some memories that’ll last forever.
I also wanna give a special shoutout to a couple of individuals who this year introduced me to two new sports which added some INCREDIBLE tools to my fitness arsenal and really helped me approach the games in a way that was very unique both mentally and physically, so @ben.wadham
thank you for introducing me to adaptive CrossFit and Sam from @royalmarinesjiujitsu
for showing me the huge benefits of Jiu Jitsu not only for my fitness but also for my life.
Both of these Gents gave up an inordinate amount of time, knowledge, skill, expertise & energy to train me in their respective disciplines and I appreciate it all, both sports have had an amazing crossover affect into my life as an amputee so thank you lads.
I was gonna write some other soppy stuff but I’m running outta characters and all you guys know I love ya anyway 😉
Now I’m off to enjoy the weekend with my family, I have a few loose ends to tie up next week and then I’m done for Christmas.
Have a great weekend.
