If you don’t for praise, then you won’t die from criticism. ⠀⠀⠀ “Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head... I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children... Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards...but thy salvation, O God, sets me up on high.” Psalm 69 ⠀⠀⠀ Rejected by his father, his brothers, his father in law Saul, his wife Michal, his son Absalom, those who hated him for no reason, those who sat at the gate, the drunkards, and many others, David had to learn to find his acceptance in God. ⠀⠀⠀ But it was in this tension that David actually discovered the secret to life - finding our acceptance in God alone! ⠀⠀⠀ Many will have opinions about you but make sure you are only listening to the One that matters. ⠀⠀⠀ Talk to me in the comments.
“You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you.” Job 22:28 ⠀⠀⠀ My friends, 2018’s patterns will not work in 2019’s season. Stop your complaining. Stop saying how broke you are. Stop saying you’re never going to be able. Stop saying it’s never going to happen. ⠀⠀⠀ Let 2019 be the year that you break all agreement with negative talk. ⠀⠀⠀ Tag someone who needs to hear this and talk to me in the comments.
My IG family, we need to bring the heart and the art together! Musicians in the church should have the highest level skill as well as the highest level character! ⠀⠀⠀ In what ways are you pressing for this reality? ⠀⠀⠀ Tag someone and talk to me about this in the comments!
We’re off to celebrate 11 years married!! ⠀⠀⠀ Go check out this week’s EPIC vlog episode on my IGTV right now! It will fire you up for the global worship movement! ⠀⠀⠀ See y’all Monday! ❤️ - @rickpino
SOUND ON! 🔊 FUN FACT: I don’t just post content on social media! Lol. I actually lead worship and play many instruments. Sitar being one of them.😉 ⠀⠀⠀ This is a throw back from our @hodglobal trip to India last year. We were walking through the mall and I saw these dudes jamming so I asked if I could join them. They were amazed that a white American could play! We got to tell them about Jesus afterwards. It was cool. Lol. ⠀⠀⠀ Do you play any interesting instruments?
This statement isn’t about music. This statement is about the fact that we need to get back to the value of spending long hours in the presence of God! ⠀⠀⠀ For eternity we won’t be known as apostles or prophets or by our titles. But we will be known as lovers and worshippers of God! ⠀⠀⠀ The best part about this is that you don’t have to wait until you die to step in to your eternal calling as a lover and worshipper! ⠀⠀⠀ Tag a friend and talk to me in the comments.
“Pray without ceasing” 1 Thes 5:17 ⠀⠀⠀ The primary reason for prayer is communion with God. It is less about our situation changing and more about our heart changing. ⠀⠀ However, when we are intentional to connect and dialog with God in the place of prayer, our requests being answered become a sweet byproduct of our fellowship with Him. ⠀⠀⠀ My friends please remember, when it comes to prayer, it’s better to have a heart without words than to have words without heart. ⠀⠀⠀ How can I be praying for you tonight?
“...I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” (Ephesians 4:1) ⠀⠀⠀ If you have an extraordinary calling, dream, or goal, you’re not going to get there by living ordinary like everyone else. ⠀⠀⠀ If you want to go to extraordinary levels in 2019, start living in an extraordinary way. ⠀⠀⠀ Get focused. Dream big. Press in to God. Take more ground. Believe for the impossible! ⠀⠀⠀ Who’s done with being a level 3??
4 WAYS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR SONGWRITING! . 1. In the songwriting “jungle” melody is king. If you’re stuck, start with melody then craft lyrics. . 2. Know your strengths, grow your weaknesses. Double down on what you’re good at and be intentional to grow the areas you are weaker at. . 3. Depth vs. width. Work your theology into the verses (go deep) and try and make the chorus an easy to sing “exclamation point” of that idea (can be sang by many - “wide”). . 4. Some songs you sweat out, others you bleed out. In other words, some songs are finished in 5 min others are not finished for 5 years. When you understand this, your process with be much easier and you won’t be as discouraged when you need to “sweat” a song out. . There are obviously many more tips but i can’t fit them all here. Hopefully these few help you as a songwriter. . Tag a songwriter and share YOUR best songwriting tips in the comments!
Your perspective determines your experience. What are you focused on? - In Numbers 13, we see the land was flowing with milk and honey and the fruit was so enormous that it took two men to carry a cluster of grapes! However, there were also giants in the land. - “And we even saw giants, and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.” Numb 13:33 - Because ten of the men saw themselves as grasshoppers, that’s what they were! - But because Joshua and Caleb believed they could slay the giants, that’s what they did! - The situation was the same but the perspective was different. The perspective focused on the problem brought discouragement but the perspective focused on the promise brought courage to take the land. - Tag someone who needs to see this and talk to me in the comments!
Im glad so many of you were impacted by my recent video about “sing your own songs”... . I got countless DM’s and messages about, “what if my song doesn’t connect” or, “how do I introduce a new song” or, “I don’t think they like my song?”... all valid questions! Here are two tips to bring some insight to those concerns... . 1. Maybe the song isn’t complete yet. Lead your new songs and see what parts connect and what parts don’t. Nothing wrong with working through the process of a song then trying it again the next time you lead. Some of my songs were fully completed in 5 min, and others took me 5 years to complete. Either way, keep working it until every part seems to connect well with the congregation. . 2. Maybe you aren’t confident because the song is not your authentic truth yet. No place translates uncertainty better than a worship set. Lol. People know and can feel when you believe the words you’re singing or not. If you’re confident in your message, it will empower those who you are leading with confidence as well. . Look, some songs you bleed out and others you sweat out. Some come easy, some take work. But remember, the reason why the majority of the church is singing songs written by a minority of churches/movements is because those churches/movements are being diligent to write and try out new songs! Wouldn’t it be incredible if someone else wrapped their season, their message, their God experience in song so the world would have more ways to express worship to Jesus! . Never underestimate the power of singing your own song, releasing your own sound from the truth and authenticity of your experience or season! The world needs what you carry! . Worship peeps! As we prepare for our sets tomorrow, please allow me to share a thought with you. I honestly believe that one of the marks of a mature worship leader is to write, create and release your own sound and songs. . It’s cute when a baby mimics it’s parents voice and words but part of growing and maturing is to discover your own voice and words. I feel like the same could be said for worship and for the songs we sing. (Again, I’m specifically talking to worship leaders etc.) . Everyone starts by copying examples, but don’t stay there! . Never underestimate the power of YOUR authentic, sound or song! Singing your song from the truth of your season will set people free! . Don’t just be an echo, be a voice! .
