I make films and content. I make clients happy. I win awards.
Watch the award-winning sci-fi film 'Tony' here:
I was 8. And this is the first photo of Stan Lee I ever saw. Posing and flexing side by side with his creations.
As I grew older, I read more of his work and about his life. A Jewish American man by the name of Stanley Lieber, he changed his name to Stan Lee. Which when I was 8 years old, confused the heck out of me. I thought he was Chinese.
But that really innocent misconception didn't matter. I always thought he is a superhero. In many ways though, he really IS a superhero. The best of them all.
The first 100 issues of the Fantastic Four remains one of my favourite comic book stories and also one of the most influential in the comic book medium. It was powerful yarn, bursting with explosive energy and cracking with a kaleidoscopic mix of Shakespearean prose and dynamic kung fu movie visuals.
Through his bombastic, larger than life prose and characters, and with the help of the equally, epically talented 'Jolly' Jack Kirby, Stan 'The Man' Lee blazed The Power Cosmic charged trail through the endless starfields of popular culture, a trail that us True Believers still follow to this day, from New York City to Asgard, Latveria to Wakanda. We follow it all the way up to the latest Marvel Studios movie.
Thank you for inspiring millions of us through your life and your work. From the Fantastic to the Incredible, the Mighty to the Invincible. The Uncanny to the Amazing, the Spectacular and the Sensational.
Thank you for making us True Believers.
And most of all, thank you for constantly reminding us of one of life's most important lessons:
That with great power, comes great responsibility.
RIP Stan Lee 1922-2018 .
