Oh hey, just me, livin’ my best life 🖤 Raven & Victor leave today. They’ve been here 10 days & I was really getting used to my badass Doberman entourage. Next on the boarding calendar: our besties Gibbs & Oscar (@thecaninecottage_ ) are staying with us through the end of the month. After that? A birthday present to Sophie and myself—COLORADO! But for real, I think I’ve found my calling in life as a #DobermanMom . ——— Shop & Save RESCUEPACK10 ↠ @finleysbarkery RESCUEPACK12 ↠ @kensiearnolddesigns RESCUEPACK20 ↠ @petqwerks ——— . . . #midwestcanines #shorttailsail #rugerfanclub #mrdoritoears #dobermanpride #dobelove #alldoberman #dobermanpinscher #doberman #dobermansofinstagram #minnstagram #dogsofmsp #minnesota #boldnorth #dogsofinstagram #explorewithdogs #adventurewithdogs #thegreatoutdogs #hikingdogsofinstagram #mydogismy #squadgoals #roversitter #harborhoundpack #rescuematters

Stand up to winter & #optoutside Especially given the mild winter Minnesota has been experiencing this year! Yesterday we officially made it halfway through winter—wahoo! I mean, I wouldn’t complain if we got some fresh snow, but the last thing you’ll catch my doing is complaining about the cold. We’re 9°F above average for the month of January so far & that is something to be grateful for! Swipe ➡️ to see Soph’s tiny blep for #tongueouttuesday . I took Sophie & Raven on a sunrise trail hike at one of our regional parks on Sunday morning. The girls really enjoyed some time away from the boys & we even saw a fox meandering across the parking lot as we pulled in—it wasn’t the slightest bit phased by the sight of me getting out of my car 😳 #Hike5 of the @52hikechallenge completed 1/13/2019 . ——— Shop & Save RESCUEPACK10 ↠ @finleysbarkery RESCUEPACK12 ↠ @kensiearnolddesigns RESCUEPACK20 ↠ @petqwerks ——— . . . #midwestcanines #52hikechallenge #sweetsophiemn #bordercollie #borderfame #heartdog #exploremn #capturemn #minnesotaexposure #minnstagram #dogsofmsp #minnesota #boldnorth #dogsofinstagram #weeklyfluff #explorewithdogs #adventurewithdogs #harborhoundpack #thegreatoutdogs #backcountrypaws #hikingdogsofinstagram #hikingwithdogs #unleashedexplorers #sendadogphoto #mydogismy #sitpretty
Raven 🖤 She is independent, intelligent, determined, goofy & absolutely stunning. Can you believe she’s 8 years old?! Not a single gray hair on her muzzle! The stark contrast between her personality and my boys is almost comical, but expected. They say that female Dobermans are much more independent than males—Raven is pretty much proving this generalization for me & I absolutely love it. She’s got significantly more drive than any of the boys, is ball obsessed & extremely vocal. Not to mention I can’t get enough of her head tilts!! While the 3 boys are curled up in donuts on the couch in the living room or vying for my hand to pet or my attention, Raven prefers to hang out in her crate in the basement, alone, in the dark. Her personality speaks to me because it’s so similar to mine #nonewfriends 😂 Raven has been with me since Friday, but last night was the first time she joined us upstairs all night. She brought her bone up on the bed at bedtime, whined when it fell off the bed, retrieved it, let it fall again, then fell asleep (her owners tell me it’s her nightly routine). When Raven seeks out attention, she really wants it & is SO affectionate. She will lean & lie down right alongside me, giving my kisses and so much love. I’m so happy to have her here for the week—getting to know her makes me even more excited to have my own female someday. — Raven is wearing a 1” waterproof collar + accent color strap keeper & medium 3/4” waterproof leash from the @harborhoundco Summit & Sea Collection — . . . #roversitter #shorttailsail #midwestcanines #dobermanpride #dobelove #alldoberman #dobermanpinscher #doberman #dobermansofinstagram #exploremn #capturemn #minnesotaexposure #minnstagram #dogsofmsp #minnesota #boldnorth #dogsofinstagram #explorewithdogs #adventurewithdogs #optoutside #thegreatoutdogs #harborhoundpack #hikingdogsofinstagram #hikingwithdogs #unleashedexplorers #sendadogphoto #bestwoof #mydogismy #canonusa
You know those females that everyone talks about? The ones who turn heads walking down the street? That’s these two gorgeous gals 😍 Can we please just take a moment to admire how FIT Raven is (she’s 8!)?! 🔥 Talk about dog bod goals! I’m just staring at this photo & pretending that Sophie looks that good under her long, luscious coat. 😉 . ——— Shop & Save RESCUEPACK10 ↠ @finleysbarkery RESCUEPACK12 ↠ @kensiearnolddesigns RESCUEPACK20 ↠ @petqwerks ——— . . . #midwestcanines #shorttailsail #sweetsophiemn #bordercollie #borderfame #heartdog #dobermanpride #dobelove #alldoberman #dobermanpinscher #doberman #exploremn #capturemn #minnesotaexposure #minnstagram #dogsofmsp #minnesota #boldnorth #dogsofinstagram #explorewithdogs #adventurewithdogs #optoutside #thegreatoutdogs #hikingdogsofinstagram #sendadogphoto #bestwoof #mydogismy #shotoniphone #fitdogs #harborhoundpack
Posted this photo on my story last night. Debated whether I wanted to post it to our feed because 1) I wasn’t thrilled about the quality of the photo—I took it on my iPhone & 2) I wanted to wait & get a better shot of all 4 on my DSLR after Buddy got more comfortable with Raven and Victor without a muzzle. After further consideration & internal processing, I decided to post this photo anyways because 1) It’s still a kickass Dobe squad photo & 2) It’s an accurate snapshot into my life as a dog sitter and responsible dog handler. I am not shy about the fact that Buddy wears a muzzle when getting acquainted with new dogs. He’s not a mean dog, but he is still learning how to appropriately communicate his discomfort with other dogs. He is SUCH a different dog when he is muzzled—he gives more verbal warnings, is more confident & comfortable and I can actually see him stopping to think through a response to situations that he’d otherwise resort to snapping/physically reacting to another dog. I’ve also found that I am much more level headed & at ease in these situations when Buddy is muzzled, which I’m sure translates to why he is also more at ease. It’s my responsibility as Buddy’s owner & as a dog sitter to ensure the safety of all dogs in my care, personal & client dogs. Muzzles don’t mean monsters & I hope this post helps convey that message. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! #muzzleupproject #dobermanpride #rescuematters . . . . #midwestcanines #shorttailsail #rugerfanclub #mrdoritoears #dobelove #alldoberman #dobermanpinscher #doberman #dobermansofinstagram #minnstagram #dogsofmsp #minnesota #boldnorth #dogsofinstagram #weeklyfluff #explorewithdogs #adventurewithdogs #thegreatoutdogs #hikingdogsofinstagram #mydogismy #squadgoals #roversitter #dogsitting #muzzletraining #operationmuzzle #realtalk #shotoniphone
Off Leash Hiking I get lots of questions about hiking trails & my dogs being off leash, so I figured I’d try to answer them all in a post. Most all public trails have signage indicating that dogs must be leashed. Most of the time, especially anywhere with lots of people, dogs & near busy roads, I have all my dogs leashed. When we’re off the trail or in a spot where I can see there is no one else/where others share a mutual understanding of respecting space, I allow my dogs off leash. HOWEVER I only them off leash if: 1. They are wearing their ecollars. No exceptions. Think about the seatbelt theory. The chances we need them are slim, but we automatically click that seatbelt when we get in the car anyways. 2. We aren’t disrupting restoration areas. I try to maintain any landscape or natural habitat that is under restoration. 3. My dogs are already off leash & recall trained reliably (meaning in almost any situation, they will recall without an ecollar). They must recall immediately at all times. If they even attempt to approach other people or dogs on a trail, they will be leashed because it’s disrespectful & we have no way of knowing if the other dogs/people on the trail are reactive/fearful/etc. Anytime we see others on a trail, we move off the trail & my dogs are in a sit/stay until others have passed. There is no greeting and craning of necks at passerbys. I don’t want to perpetuate the belief/idea that any dog can be off leash in a wide open space, because in reality most dogs shouldn’t be—many dogs don’t have the training or recall to reliably be off leash in a public space that isn’t intended for socialization (unlike dog parks which were created for the purpose of dogs being off leash and free to socialize/approach each other at will). Off leash hiking is a privilege my dogs earn, that I constantly work on WITH them & is something that I am very careful about. If we all respected others on the trails & in public spaces, I don’t believe we would even need designated off leash areas. The statements above are my own beliefs based on personal experience & mistakes—intended to be informational & provide my perspective to off leash hiking. Happy Hiking! ↟
