A ballpoint pen sketch of my grandfather I did the day he passed.
A year ago today, Nicholas Prokowich, my grandfather, passed away. He was a prominent figure in my family's life, seeing him almost daily. I would have loved to go back home to visit my family for the sake of his absence, to visit my dad before his spine surgery, and my mom's birthday; but I wasn't allowed a single day. To be transparent, it makes me frustrated, angry, and depressed that I couldn't go. My grandfather, above all, celebrated and prioritized family. So despite the distance, I'll still celebrate my family back home with my family here. These ties are the strongest and you should never diminish the importance of family.
