Today, October 16, 2018, the North Rim of the Park is closing some facilities for the winter. . On October 16, Grand Canyon Lodge, lodge food services, the general store, Canyon Trail Rides, and park ranger programs will close for the winter. . Between October 16 and October 31, the North Rim Campground remains open with limited services. The Visitor Center, lodge gift shop, and entrance station will remain open for visitor use. Gas and diesel fuel will be available with a credit card. . If visiting the North Rim after October 15, please plan ahead and prepare your food and water for the day. Purchasing these items will be extremely difficult on site. Prepare for winter travel with sudden and adverse driving conditions on Highway 67 and throughout the park. Snow, ice or rain can be encountered during this time. . Between November 1st and December 1st, the North Rim is open for "dawn to dusk" day use with limited services. However, if snow closes highway 67 before December 1, the park will also close. . On December 1, Highway 67 is closed, and park roads are also closed. Even though it is not possible to drive vehicles to the North Rim, hikers, snowshoers and cross country skiers are able to enter the North Rim of the park through the winter months, provided backcountry permits have been obtained. Personal snowmobiles are not permitted inside the park. . Backcountry permits are available through the Backcountry Information Center (928-638-7875) and at the Visitor Center at Pipe Spring National Monument located in Fredonia, Arizona.. . #GrandCanyon #Arizona #Nature #NorthRim #Sunrise #EndOfSeason . Right before sunset we watched this scary storm making it’s way across the canyon from the northwest. 10 minutes after this photo was taken, it started pouring. It rained for around two hours. US Highway 89 has reopened between Cameron and US 160 after 48 hours! (For those of you planning to drive between the north and south rims of Grand Canyon this weekend.) . Grand Canyon National Park would like to thank Arizona Department of Transportation for working non-stop to get the flood damage to Highway 89 repaired. .
