“This is Pops—76 years young, a recovering Type 2 diabetic and the subject of an ongoing project I’m documenting for #CrossFit . Two and a half years ago he walked into @utecrossfit and has been attending classes off and on since. - “When he was consistent in attendance, his commitment to a healthier diet increased to a place where he was able to come off his insulin for a period. (He hasn’t always been consistent). - “It’s an interesting position I’ve found myself in documenting my father as he takes on chronic disease. I’ve always known what doing functional movement paired with a healthy intake of food can do, but this project hits home, literally. 🤳🏼@crossfitrollingthunder : “A few years ago the VA diagnosed me with degenerative disc decease in my lower back from an injury during my time in the Navy. Did the rehab but pretty much was told it can’t be fixed. Today I deadlifted 405lbs with no pain finally breaking the 400lb bar. I year ago I decided to do something about it. I got my #CrossFit level one training and this year affiliated as @crossfitrollingthunder so that I can help others cure themselves of both injuries and chronic diseases. The next step is to find a location for our gym. We workout out of our garage with some neighbors, many times just my wife and I.
