Let’s make change for good happen! A message to Mark Zuckerberg and all Facebook shareholders, to Larry Page, Sergey Brin and all Google (Youtube) shareholders, and to Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams and all Twitter shareholders. 🙏Image credit to @rebelchallenger
I feel despair about the loss of precious life in Christchurch, NZ, so I am taking action in my world of influence. All each of us can do when we feel affected by what is happening in the greater world, is to act in the area over which we have direct control. Each of us can spread love, kindness and inclusion. Social media is also where Biome, and I personally, have a sphere of influence, which I am using.
@facebook @google @twitter
: as the world’s most powerful information dissemination platforms, who have billions of dollars of wealth to utilise for good, you have an urgent MORAL responsibility to act rapidly to end the ability for your platforms to be used to propagate hate speech and violence.
You employ thousands of brilliant software programmers who could find a way to ensure that your platforms are never again used to allow someone to broadcast video or photos of their violent acts.
Most media outlets with an emotionally intelligent human gatekeeper would not have allowed this to be aired. You need to find a way to do the same. “Quickly taking down accounts” is not enough. Once it airs, it is too late as it will be recorded and shared to amplify this hate that is a threat to all humanity.
💰Our business, Biome, pays a lot of hard-earned, ethical money to you Facebook and Google. Please use it responsibly.
❤️ to my NZ family - Molly, my 101 year old grandmother, my Dad, Aunties, Uncles, all the greater fam, and especially my Uncle Johnny in whose memory I will always support the @allblacks
