Sukhasana: Easy Pose
Ask my kids to sit cross legged and they find it ‘easy’ but usually sit with slumping shoulders and a rounded back.
Ask them to imagine a piece of string gently pulling them up from the top of their heads towards the sky, to stretch their backs long and strong and suddenly sitting cross legged isn’t so ‘easy’. It requires focus, concentration and body awareness.
Sitting in Sukhasana.. with ‘good’ yoga shoulders and back, I guide them to breathe in and out. I ask them to see what they notice. How does it feel when you breathe in and out? What does it feel like in your chest? What are you saying to yourself?
We all have a little voice inside our mind and it can be a loud, powerful voice but we can control it. We are all super strong. I often tell them the story of the two wolves inside their head. There’s a ‘good’ wolf and a wolf that isn’t so great. The one we listen to is the one we feed and give the most power to which becomes the winner. Life isn’t so simple but explaining it to kids in simple terms: good v bad they understand. In their world, there is black and white.. grey comes later when they’re older.
I say to my kids that we should always speak kindly and respectfully to ourselves.
To help them sit for longer we focus on our breath, inviting them to feel what happens to their body as they breathe in and then breathe out. I ask them to think about their lungs being balloons. We fill them up, then we let the air out - sometimes we do #lionsbreath sometimes we do a few Aum/Oms.
I ask them to say to themselves in their head a #mantra like #iamhealthyandstrong#iamfierce#iambeautiful#sukhasana#easypose#warriorbearsfrauenfeld#kinderyoga#kidsyoga#mindfulkids#mindfulkinderyoga#frauenfeldyoga#entspanntekinder#fiercekids#mantras#yogaposes#yoga#yogaforbeginners#yogaforlife
☀️Making shapes in the park🍃 today... Discovering new places, running through the ferns, round the reservoir, by the swans, and all in the beautiful afternoon ☀️
I dont know about you, but Ive been feeling a little low in the last few weeks without the sun, heat and regular whole days spent outdoors. Just a few hours out and about amongst nature today has really boosted my mood (and Vitamin D!). So get yourself out in the park, running or dancing around in nature and you too will feel re-energised and dreaming of Spring 🐣🌻🍃❤
Progress will never come in a straight line.
Most likely it‘ll look pretty much like a roller coaster.
But it’s still progress.
Enjoy the ride.
Enjoy every part of it. ‘Cause it’s all part of the journey.
Learning to be creative where I can stretch. After acquiring a giant sectional in our little apartment, the space to move has reduced drastically.
Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining. Pushing against the wall at this angle, with the assist of the wall in front of me 👌 mmm it feels so good.
