A Moveable Kingdom :: Piece by piece over the next year, I will be looking at world building - eventually attempting to translate a universe of my own.
Here is a little etching plate, the photo on your phone roughly to scale. Thinking about matter vs antimatter pairings, and the invisible energy within what our eyes see as an empty void in the cosmos.

World building is probably my favorite part of writing a new story. I'm still working on my novel from nano, and lately I've been thinking about what my character's hometown's staples are.
Every hometown has staples. They're what make home feel like home, what the city might be known for.
The best example that I can think of is how Terrasen (and Rowan) from Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass smell like pine. That's the smell of home for the main character, and it plays such an important role in who Aelin becomes and how she stays strong.
Your own hometown probably has staples like this. Mine does. Youngstown is known for its historical landmarks, like those pictured above. The abandoned steel mills, North-East Ohioan weather, the university. The scent of my sheets, like vanilla and fresh linen. These are the images I see when I think of home.
What are some staples of the cities of your fictional worlds? How might you be able to use them in your story? .

Always have a backup plan or a getaway boat 🙃

Update on New Zealand, and as is usually the case, I've gotten little done. Most everything is still in pencil, but the I've got some parts of the southern island inked in. The shading on the scrolls took quite a bit of time to do, and perhaps they're a bit too dark? I like how they look, but it's my first time trying something like this, out. And yes, the forests are incomplete. I.... Haven't gotten around to them quite yet. Speaking of first times, I decided to take @misty.beee
's advice, and changed the shading on the mountains, from absolutely dark holes (in her own words XD) to something a bit lighter. (Thanks again for the advice, and your seemingly infinite patience with me). I also need to work on the (attempted) calligraphy, especially in the bottom right corner. Some of the lines are thicker than I'd like them to be.
As always, criticism is eagerly welcomed and appreciated.

of Obelisk and Xio, two blood mages in clothing fit for Northern Marazia. I’ve been wanting to get more in depth with the culture clothing and armor designs but I’m not home for a bit and it’s easier to do on my tablet than paper.
Before Obelisk was a foreign ambassador he was a domestic one, he traveled around Marazia with his bodyguard and faithful companion Xio, another blood mage. They we’re both jungle natives and knew each other from a young age, but stuck together through their careers. When he advanced out of the military into an emissary, he insisted on Xio becoming his bodyguard. His employers agreed, figuring they wouldn’t have to hire one themselves and Xio has proved herself in combat. They both we’re fine talking to tribes and meeting with tribal councils, but being sent North is what they dreaded. The clothing they had to wear was special made for them as outsiders and jungle natives, the tundra natives had to wear half of the clothing they did. The tundra native’s fur is thicker and dense, while Obelisk’s and Xio’s fur is thinner and suited to keep them cool in hot climates. They eventually get used to being in the cold when its not windy or storming, but by the time they get acclimated to the weather, their time in the North is usually finished. They enjoy being back in the jungle and are given time off to readjust and relax before their next rounds of emissary duties. Because of how many areas are needing an emissary for the Queen, their time off is very short before returning to work.

Air pirates should be in every fantastical setting, says I.
Here, we have the motley crew of Captain Boralus Benson (the gnome doing the Captain Morgan with the shades), his partner in crime and fellow gnome Merrie Smyles (the sort of name that could drive anyone to a life of violence), Chief Gunner Delsevera (fire mages are the best artillery a considerable share of the loot can buy), Mr. Kroff, the Bruiser (who took up piracy to impress the ladies back home), Chief Engineer Felk (goblin, scrapper, recreational demolitionist and repairman extraordinaire, who keeps their ship aloft), and Shoru Half-Stare, disreputable master hobgoblin swordsman.
