Today’s Mom of the Day is Marinelly Piñango (@marinelly_artist
). “Becoming” might be the word Marinelly Piñango has come to identify with the most. She is keen on words and language, their meaning and how the stories we tell shape and inform our views about ourselves and the world. “Becoming is word that always allows space and possibility, it is not a fixed state or identity, but leaves room for transformation, for shedding, for incubation and for growth.” — .
Marinelly started her life’s journey in Venezuela, lived in New York as a girl; has lived in Lyon, France and Madrid, Spain and she dreams of living in Amsterdam. She earned her PhD in Cognition, Communication and Interculturality from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and became an artist soon after that. She now lives in Atlanta with her husband, their 6-year-old son and 14-year-old miniature Schnauzer.
She embraces her eclectic background and the fact that she’s not easy to pinpoint. Becoming a mother is one of the most transformative things that ever happened to her. She loves traveling, but also spending time in her art studio creating and writing. She meditates daily because “shift happens”. She loves reading, especially literature and poetry, and spending quiet nights at home with her family.
A favorite quote: “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” by Thomas Merton.
A favorite movie: La Grande Belleza by Paolo Sorrentino.
A favorite book: “Women who Run with the Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, PhD.
Editor’s Note: Normally, at Super Cool Moms we write/edit our posts. Today, Marinelly wrote her own post. After we worried that we’d explained ourselves badly and created more work for her than we’d intended, she assuaged our fears by telling us that the writing was cathartic in a way. We talked a bit about how hard it is to turn off the voice in our head that tells us we aren’t good enough. Well, our hope at Super Cool Moms is to show that no matter what that voice tells you, you are awesome and cool. And the fact, that our Mom of the Day wrote her own post and allowed it to help her should tell you why we asked her to be Mom of the Day. #supercoolmoms
