I haven’t been one to listen to music while running for at least a decade. Part of it is because I use the time to be in my own head. Another part is that I don’t like to block out sounds around me - it’s a physiological thing tying back to when I was attached while running. I’ve slowly gotten hooked on podcasts, however, and really like listening to them on easy runs. One of them is the @aliontherun1
show and she talks about @aftershokz
headphones a lot (like, loves them). What’s amazing is that I hear the sound through my bones. (What?!?) And I don’t have to have anything in my ear so I can stay alert. I picked these up back in the States and already understand all the hype. 8 miles this morning, in my new amazing hat, and listening to a podcast. #treehugger #aftershokz
2 quick miles today! .
I'm not sure if it's the cold weather, or the fact that I haven't raced in over a year, but I'm finding it so difficult to find motivation to get my runs in lately. I have A TON going on in my personal life right now, both exciting and stressful, and that could be a huge factor. I'm trying to hold myself accountable, but also give myself some leeway. .
There's a very fine line between pushing yourself through those "I don't feel like it" moments, and pushing yourself to the point of burnout, and I think I'm getting close to crossing that line. There's more important things in life than nailing all of my runs, especially right now. That being said, I'm going to give myself a little bit of breathing room and continue to reassess and realign my goals to suit all that I have going on. .
Glad I got this one done, and hopefully I'll get in a few more runs this week!

Ridiculously slow on this slushy compact icy mess... but at least my yak trax finally got here a week later 🙄
Grow, muscles, grow! 💪🏻
Playing coach and deviating from my usual #hansonsmarathonmethod
training. This off season, I’m focusing on less running and more cross-training 🚴🏻♀️ and weight training 🏋🏻♀️ to help build a solid training base.
Just a reminder to myself of how far I have come not just physically, but mentally. I still have moments that I think I’m still the exhausted, unhealthy & unhappy mom on the left. Then I take a deep breath & go for a run. It clears my head every time. Reminds me that I couldn’t run in 2010. Not because I physically couldn’t, but because I was scared to start. The work really starts on the inside & becomes visible on the outside. #happyisaninsidejob
Running is more than just a daily exercise for me. It’s the chance to release any negative feelings, thoughts or emotions brewing from the day before... a chance to let go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Getting to run is such an incredible feeling. Today I ran 4.7 miles with the wind in my face and music playing through my headphones; as a solo runner. I usually run with a group which is always equally as amazing as running alone, but there’s something about being alone, listening to good tunes and your own breath. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stay positive on this gorgeous Tuesday. Keep your head up and know that even when life gets hard, someone is always there for you. Exercise to get your frustration out, love a lot and cry it out! #womensrunningcommunity #travelblogger #runninginspiration #irunthereforeiam #inspire #bosstribe #goalsetting #staypositive
Whew!! When I first saw this on my schedule I said NOPE 😂 Adulting and consistency don’t always go hand in hand. It is always hard for me to do a long run after work!! I’m thankful I was able to complete the workout, thankful it’s over and thankful for all the IG runners that inspire me to keep pushing on!! I hope everyone has a wonderful week ❤️
Photodump of the last handful of “better than nothing” streaksaver miles. Today marks RSD 1,546. I’ve been here before, and I’m sure I’ll be here again... but boy, oh, boy am I looking forward to running outta this rut. Maybe the time has finally come to register for a race again.
14 mile long run this afternoon! I have to say that I’m glad it’s over 😂. Objectively, this wasn’t a bad run: my average pace was 9:17 with nine of my miles slower than 9:30, and my average heart rate was 148. But, it just didn’t feel very good. I felt tired from the beginning and time was passing very slowly so this run felt longer than it should have. I’m still happy to have gotten the miles in and I’m looking forward to my five miles recovery run tomorrow! I also did a lower body and core workout when I got back.
HOW TO COME BACK FROM BAD MARATHONS❤️
After running my first BQ in 2014- I ran a string of bad races in 2015-2016- 3:47, 3:39, 3:38. I CANNOT even begin to tell you how demoralizing that was. Each of those was with a full marathon buildup & months of preparation- so when each race turned out & so far off my PR, it was SUPER discouraging.😔
The BEST advice I can give to anyone is to walk away from the marathon distance for a bit. I knowwww, it’s so hard to walk away when you just want to prove yourself. But I promise time off from the marathon + marathon training is SUPER good for you. Marathons WEAR.YOU.OUT. & having lots of bad races can emotionally beat you down- that’s SERIOUSLY not how you want to go back into another marathon training cycle. After that last tough race, I took a full 22 months off from the marathon- focusing on other distances & giving my body a chance to catch up.
👉🏽STOP DOING THE SAME THING
If you’ve had several cycles without success, ya gotta rethink your plan. For me, switching to less days of running + less mileage REALLY helped. I added in doing my hard workouts with friends. I got a plan that really helped me to get faster without fatiguing me.
👉🏽FOCUS ON OTHER DISTANCES
Everyone is SOOO marathon obsessed. Guys- there are other distances tooo!!! And focusing on the other distances can actually make you faster once you go back to the marathon. If you feel like you’re stuck at a plateau- put the marathon on the backburner and focus on the 5k. You get faster at the shorter distances, you’ll be more relaxed at faster paces in the longer distances. .
👉🏽GET YOUR CONFIDENCE BACK
THIS IS KEY. Don’t go back into the ring if you just expect to get knocked out again. That’s totally counterproductive. Your mind runs the show-& if you’re still reeling from tough days- then you’re not in the place to have the confidence to run to your fitness. Build your confidence back up with other distances & then you’ll be ready to take on the marathon again!
My next marathon after the 3:38 was a 3:11- & a huge PR - but also a 27-36 minute jump from the marathon times I had been running.❤️
Got in a nice 7 mile run tonight at the good ole @lehilegacy
🏃♀️ Been fighting off a pain in the ass cold for well over 2 weeks now. 😷 Luckily I somehow managed to not cough my brains out during this run and felt really strong!
Give this speed workout a try!

”Be brave and be fearless, and for God’s sake, stand up for yourself.” @therealgretchencarlson
I’m pretty introverted naturally. I’m also socially awkward, self-conscious, and generally hate people looking at me. (Seriously, I do. And I’m 6’ tall, so I know what it’s like to be stared at!) Lately I’ve been struck by how many times in my life I’ve let people walk all over me or failed to speak my mind because I was scared. It’s easy to do, and it’s often rewarded. And for most of my life I’ve believed that makes it worth it. But I don’t anymore.
You know what happens when you fail to speak up or yourself? When you keep quiet to keep the peace? You lose yourself. Not all at once, but bit by bit. Piece by piece. You lose your beliefs, your truths, your personality, your confidence.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I may be a lawyer, but I DO NOT believe that everything is worth fighting about. MANY things are not. But every person has to decide for themselves what those things are. To fight for nothing makes you nothing. Believe what you believe, be who you are, and fight to preserve both. 💪🏽
We all get one chance to be who we are. And it’s short. So just be it already. 💡And stand up for that person when you decide to be her.

What.a.day. I think the one thing that helped me get through was knowing that tomorrow I have a long run schedule to help me burn off today’s crazy.
The good news is, new inventory just hit my porch this morning and is now available for pre order. These leggings are going to sell out quick, come in two colors and are super comfortable. And helllooo, how sweaxy is this sports bra that is also available in smoky mauve?!? This just might be my favorite outfit so far and is available for pre order until this Friday, February 22, 2019 💁🏻♀️🛍 Link in profile to shop!
If you keep putting in the work everyday, even when you don’t feel like it, you will be successful.
I feel like I’m finally feeling good about marathon training. I haven’t been running as many miles as I know I should be because I just haven’t felt like it.
Sometimes it’s ok to cut some runs short or take a rest day, but I’ve been doing it too much. I really need to focus now that Boston is less than 8 weeks away.
The last few days I have felt good finishing my runs. I haven’t felt like quitting halfway through, so I think I’m finally back on track. I’m going to finish these last 8 weeks strong and give Boston my best effort!
6.32 miles in 49:25.
2 mi on the treadmill ✅ Embracing the treadmill so much more on short runs. Especially with our cold, rainy weather today! #treadmillworkout
It’s a @therunfeed
reunion! We went straight from RDU to run at Umstead, wearing the same shirt (by accident) and grinning the whole way. Had to force ourselves to stop talking so we could catch our breath. I love @lutternoodle
more than cookies but @loafdurham
cookies are lovable, too. I’m on a sugar high I love her I love running ok 🍪 AYB
