Dark Phoenix trounces The X-Men AGAIN, Professor X PSYCHIC BATTLES Phoenix, and Scott thinks this is a swell time to propose to Jean in "Uncanny X-Men" #136
(August 1980) written by Chris Claremont & John Byrne, pencils by John Byrne, inks by Terry Austin, colors by Glynis Oliver (welcome back, Glynis!) #DarkPhoenixSaga
pt8 *Jean and The Phoenix Force return to Earth...
*... yet the most powerful cosmic force in the galaxy chooses to nostalgia-visit Jean's childhood home.
*Phoenix defeats her best friend Ororo physically and emotionally
*there's so much to unpack about Jean Grey's repressed dark side and Logan's instinctual understanding of it that even in 2018, mainstream comic books aren't equipped to handle it. But Claremont & Byrne introduced plenty of kink variables in this epic story that deserve to eventually be explored when pop culture is mature enough to handle it.
*Jean has a moment of clarity, then blasts Wolvie in a moment of re-unclarity.
*Scott battles Jean with the glory of love...
*... but Professor X has a goddamn smackdown w her...
*... which he wins, but only cause Jean fought against the lustful Phoenix glory.
*Scott and Jean GET ENGAGED!!!!!
*that's when The X-Men get teleported to a different galaxy to answer for Jean's genocide, setting up DPS's climactic conclusion.
