ALBUM REVIEW——— Real Hasta La Muerte——— By Danny Camaleón——— It is an album that gets better with each listen. Real Hasta La Muerte needs to be in your line up. Anuel weaves together a solid collection of themes that sometimes seem against his nature. He nails almost every track though, maintaining his signature hoarse voice and rugged lyrics.
Talk of brandishing guns, pushing drugs and making a fashion statement get flown high and proudly with the dark opening Na’ Nuevo and the twisted production of Yeezy. These are the reason he is known as the King of Latin Trap. He spits fire and is at his best with these joints.
Quiere Beber, Espina, Naturaleza, Pensando en Ti and Te Necesito (generally about the significant other or the next fling) reveal his knack and talent for being consumer-friendly yet still delivering good, edgy fare. Even in the midst of such songs, Anuel shows how he can quickly change the role and return to his bad boy tendencies of pleasuring and lusting. Good, old adult fun.
After Na’ Nuevo and Yeezy, Brindemos 🥂 follows close behind as one of the best tracks. Featuring Ozuna, Anuel acknowledges what he has and takes some moments to appreciate the fruits of his labor. The off-kilter beat seems strange, but it works. The two boricuas compare themselves to some of the most controversial figures in recent history (i.e. Pablo Escobar, Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein). Anuel surprised the world when he unfurled Real Hasta La Muerte- his debut album- the day of his release from prison. It is an enjoyable project next to a brilliant move made, but the album is not nearly as inspired as it could have been. For the most part, he sticks to the beaten path. He is not the cold-hearted cabecilla that he tends to project either, as he is impressive and vulnerable during the slow-moving jams.
Most of the production seems a tad “pop”. It is well-composed, but Anuel always sounded best over an eerie beat like Perdí El Control or the hellish score of Coronamos. Too bad there is not more of that here. #anuelaa #realhastalamuerte #traplatino #puertorico #music #música #spanish #español #caribe #caribeño #isla #island #chrisjeday #ozuna #ñengoflow #zion #wisin
