“material remnant of spiritual essence”. . . This long horned beetle I found lying still facing the tree. As if on its way to want to climb up the tree and then suddenly vacant, soul left its instrumental body that allowed it to wonder the earth. Ants have borrowed through the exoskeleton to cleanse the inside. That made me wonder about that thing, that willpower of existence and that keeps us moving, gives life, that infinite energy that flows through us all. This bug, a wonderful remnant of the possibilities of the Devine creation is exhibited at the @whiterivergallery “As it Was” group exhibition. . . Come have a look up close! 🐜. . . #bug #art #asitwas #longhornedbeetle #southafrica #whiteriverartgallery #whiterivergallery #exhibition #artist #naturalist #devine #creation #spiritual #remnant
I am currently exhibiting at the White River Art gallery. These artworks give thought to the title of the exhibition “As it Was” as each work is a poetic reflection of observations I have made from my natural environment. Looking at individual elements as a coherent whole, an ecology of connections that are for ever changing. The impermanence of all things reminds me of the origin of animal in the Greek word anemos, meaning wind. Wind representing the breath of the universe, sustaining life, active and unpredictable. . . Went to the white river galery this afternoon for the John Moore prints exhibition. All about nature, wildlife and whole bucket load of symbolic stuff.... Loved it! #whiteriverartgallery #whitetriver #printmaking #chameleon #nature #art #johnmoore #southafricanartists
I was photographing shows, book discussions and art galleries at the Innibos Festival in Mbombela last week. One of my highlights was meeting South African journalist and television presenter Ruda Landman. Wow - what a woman! I bumped into her at the "Mosterd na die Maal" exhibition at the White River Gallery just before her discussion on Tell Me Your Story, her new book. Her advice to the audience and South Africans in general is to listen...but REALLY listen to each other's stories. She also emphasized the importance of perspective: we need to imagine ourselves in each other's shoes. In the third image, Griet van der Meulen (or Tannie Griet van Graskop, as I know her) poses next to her artwork on display at the gallery. If you find yourself in White River, pop by Casterbridge to visit this space. It has recently been relaunched under new curatorship ❤ . . . #innibos #festival #innibos2018 #rudalandman #journalist #bookdiscussion #artgallery #whiteriver #whiteriverartgallery #mosterdnadiemaal #artist #art #lowveld #lowveldliving #mpumalanga #southafrica #portrait #makeportraitsnotwar #artspace #photography #artphotography #portraitphotography
