Twenty-two days is all that separates me from the start of my next big adventure— walking the length of New Zealand from North to South. Before I set off in any new direction I always become hyper aware of my current daily life. I take extra care to tell people how much I love them, and I sit in silence a lot, absorbing the moments of warm comfort so I can call upon them later when I am sure to be in tough situations. These posts are like that… my gratitude for those people and experiences who have led me here, as I’m about to embark on a trip that I thought I would only ever dream about.
This one is for @danabomar
and a trip we took to summit Mt. Whitney. The details of that trip far exceed the character count allotted here but I’ll say this. We found ourselves 30 miles in on a 50+ mile hike and Dana was experiencing either altitude sickness, a stomach bug or menstrual pain, but likely an unlucky combination of all three. Running on 300 calories worth of food over two days and even less sleep the only thing that stood between her and the comfort of home was the tallest mountain in the lower 48. The amount of mental strength I witnessed in her on that last day I will never forget. It showed me who she was, even though I already had the highest regard for her.
She has one of those stories that you will hear on every podcast that chronicle the rise of successful CEOs (@meltcosmetics
). The amount she accomplished before she turned 30 is more than most will in their lives. Even though she is this incredible beacon who inspires thousands of women, I always knew her as my friend who I could invite with me to do all the crazy things. The one who always encouraged me to take risks happily and questioned my overthinking nature with a cutting simplicity. I love her dearly and wish her and her (as equally talented and comedic) husband @jakeissupercool
well on their journey into parenthood.
