Adding a spin into my morning routine and the kids' as well.. setting a daily intention ♥️ . . A bit like a San Kalpa in yoga, setting an intention, an affirmation, a promise. . . This morning i didn't want to get out of bed - I'd love to tell you all that I'm one of the 5am club and that I get that hour of power in before the kids wake... But the reality is I go to bed late and I haven't developed the consistent discipline for early mornings 🤷‍♀️ . . So we got up late, the kids were sleepy too, going at a snails pace and it would've been very easy for me to lose my cool and start the constant "hurry up" "don't annoy your sister" "leave him alone" chant that fills so many school run mornings.. but I took a moment while I sat in the kitchen with my breakfast and I just decided "I am going to be kinder today" . . I went to speak to the kids and I asked Kiefer, "What's that line from Wonder?" (He's read the book about 20 times so I knew he would know what I meant) He quickly blurted out - "When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind" . . So I told them I think that should be our goal for today - let's all be kinder and nicer to eachother and everyone else. . . We managed to get ready for school, lunches sorted and out the door on time - all while we smiled, laughed and even had a bit of craic along the way! . . Definitely building this into our days from now on, a promise to ourselves and each other everyday! . . How did you start your day?? . . I hope the world is kind to you today 🙏

As a busy mama I’m often sleep deprived like many of you out there? So does it actually impact our health or just make us feel a little crappy? 😴 A lack of sleep impacts our hormones particularly serotonin and dopamine, as well as cortisol which impact mood and our energy. ⠀ ⠀ Whilst sometimes sleep deprivation is unavoidable it does have an impact on your health. Let me tell you how. ⠀ ⠀ - slower reaction time ⠀ - difficulty making decisions ⠀ - slightly more emotional and irritable⠀ - sleep deprivation impacts the ability to learn and create new memories⠀ - you’re often less creative ⠀ ⠀ For me, as a mum these things are super important and I need to try and be at my best. So what can we do? ⠀ ⠀ 🌸 avoid caffeine late at night ⠀ 🌸 go to sleep reading rather than playing on your phone ⠀ ⠀ 🌸 try and get regular exercise ⠀ 🌸 try and do something calming before bed. ⠀ ⠀ Now I’m not trying to rub anything in, but scientists don’t lie. I’ve working with my TCM practitioner on breathing techniques, in particular the Wim Hof Method - @iceman_hof The method is founded on 3 pillars - cold therapy, breathing and commitment. We’re always breathing, yet we’re mostly unaware of its tremendous potential. Heightened oxygen levels hold a treasure trove of benefits, and the specialized breathing technique of the Wim Hof Method unearths them all: more energy, reduced stress levels, and an augmented immune response that swiftly deals with pathogens. It does take a lot of commitment, and I’ve not yet been brave enough to embrace the cold therapy, but im beginning to feel the benefits. Anyone else out there working with this method? “treat your body the way you want your daughters to treat theirs” ___ This quote really hit home for me because up until I had Elliott two years ago I was not good to my body at all! Sure I worked out and ate healthy(ish) but it was always to be skinnier or to look good. And most of the time it was done in excessive amounts...working out twice a day, skipping meals, not eating certain foods, you name it. Did it work...I guess. Was I miserable? You betcha. ___ It wasn’t until I had Elliott that I actually appreciated my body for what it was and what it could do (hello I just made the most beautiful little babe, the light of my life!) Was I uncomfortable with my postpartum body? Heck yes. But I knew I needed to do things differently. ___ Honestly I was tired. Tired of worrying about eating too much. Tired of stressing about whether I worked out enough. Tired of not being happy with what I had and comparing myself to other people. I couldn’t live like this anymore and I realized that I never wanted Elliott to live like this either. ___ Now my health and wellness journey is just about that. So I am home! Back in Bali after 6 months away working (and exploring). . One of the first things I did was get to the grocers to put some fresh fruits and vegetables in the house, then I needed to go through the cupboards to see what had survived in my kitchen. Bugs love the tropics, and they’d managed to get into so much of my ‘non-perishables’ 😳. So, I’m virtually starting from scratch now after throwing so much away.. What did survive, like chickpeas, red kidney beans and lentils, all got soaked then cooked up yesterday so I have some staples in my fridge for throwing together my favourite kind of lunch.. Like this one, just using whatever is ready to eat. Always different and fresh. I can’t wait to go to the farmers market on Sunday and stock my fridge up properly. You may have guessed that I like lots of bits & bobs in my dishes. The beauty lies not only in the flavours or the presentation, but in the ease of preparation in each component. I spend an afternoon or evening a couple of times a week preparing loads of yummy morsels, which then makes it super simple to throw a healthy meal together with virtually no fuss! Here is quinoa sautéed in a lemon ginger butter with almonds & parsley, alongside sautéed kale, spinach and chokoes, roasted mushrooms & kumara, grilled tempe, zucchini ribbons & sweet scallions.
