One is a bowl full of food, one is a plate. You do the math. . Just kidding, I did it for you 🙃 . On the left there is 2.5 cups of chopped romaine (20 calories), 3/4 cup of brown rice (186 calories), a half cup of black beans (120 calories), 4 Tbsp of tofu crumbles (70 calories), 1/4 cup of corn (30 calories), homemade salsa (10 calories), and half an avocado (114 calories) . On the right is fried chicken breast (218 calories), 1/2 cup of mac n' cheese (155 calories), and 1/2 cup of baked beans (196 calories). . Now, you could replace the fried chicken with grilled chicken and that knocks it down to 187 calories but you're only saving 30 calories. . Look at the sheer VOLUME of food on the left compared to the right. You can eat way more food, stay fuller longer, and get 20 grams of fiber compared to 5 grams on the right. Most Americans do not get enough fiber. The daily recommended intake is 30-38 grams for men and 25 grams for women. On average adults in the US are only getting 15 grams a day. Both plates have over 24 grams of protein. But are you getting enough fiber?

Being vegan is easier than ever with mock meats and prepackaged items in abundance. It's okay to have these items on the right every once in a while, but they should not be at the forefront of the diet. . There's a common misconception that eating vegan is very expensive. Yes, if you're buying prepackaged foods, mock meats and cheeses--essentially vegan alternatives--these come at a premium. But a WHOLE food plant-based diet is relatively LESS expensive than it's omnivore counterpart. . Rice and beans are some of the cheapest calories you can get in any part of the world! Take this burrito bowl for example. It's packed full of flavor with tofu crumbles (flavored with taco seasonings), black beans, corn, brown rice, homemade salsa, and avocado all on a bed of romaine lettuce. This HUGE meal costs just over $2 USD to make. . WEEKEND WEIGHT GAIN:⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ -⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’ve post this graphic before, however I think it’s important to give some perspective at the end of the weekend⁣⁣ ⁣ Particularly for people who are new to me, and might not have seen it before ✌️⁣ ⁣⁣ So you don’t go into meltdown if you’ve had a rare weekend of over indulgence ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So feel free to tag someone to give them a reminder 👇💬💬⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ -⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ After a weekend of good food (lots of it), alcohol and little exercise, you weigh yourself tomorrow morning and your weights gone up about 6lbs, but have you ACTUALLY gained 6lbs?⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ No, you haven’t⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ -⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Everyone goes into meltdown when the scales go up, and after a weekend of indulging it’s pretty impossible for them not to for a number of reasons;⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Primarily you’re retaining water. That bloat you feel in your stomach, them love handles you feel like you’ve grown overnight, that’s water⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You’ve probably been consuming a lot of carbs and not been hydrating yourself⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Get a few litres of water down you and get back to your normal routine and it will vanish after a few days⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ -⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ To gain a singular pound of FAT you need to consume 3500 calories over your maintenance⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Therefore to gain 6lbs of fat you’d have to consume 21,000 calories OVER your maintenance⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ No matter how hard you think you binged this weekend, that would be some achievement ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s entirely likely you haven’t even gained a single pound of fat, especially if you’ve been in a deficit all week⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ -⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Don’t go excessively reduce your calorie intake this week to make up for it, don’t do hours of cardio, simply get back to your normal routine and get some water down ya 💦⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ -⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Will indulging every weekend stunt your progress? Absolutely⁣ ⁣⁣ But will one weekend every blue moon set you back months of hard work? No, it might cost you a weeks worth of progress at the VERY most⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So don’t stress it, but don’t do it consistently ⁣🤙
There’s a reason I’m not doing a ‘holiday survival kit’ or a countdown on how to keep the weight off over this festive period. Firstly no-one does it. Secondly it’s Christmas 🎅🏻😍. Christmas can be a big trigger for many people. I’m not saying go binge tastic crazy I’m saying relax, enjoy it, stress as little as possible. You may put on weight, you may eat too much. So what? Your reaction to that is all that matters. The moment you feel guilt at what you’ve eaten, is the moment you start feeling bad about yourself which then leads to googling of ‘no sugar’ January detoxes 🙄 the spiral of mental damage continues. It’s food, they’ll be plenty of it, enjoy the food that makes you feel good and don’t go overboard on the rest. The more you take it for what it is, the less likely you are to ‘make the most of it’. WEIGHT LOSS TIP #12 - COMBINE FAST AND SLOW DIGESTING COLORFUL FOOD “Anne, I’m hungry again so soon after I ate, it’s like I’m never satisfied!” I recognize that. Happened to me all the time until I figured out that I actually feel satisfied much longer when I make a combination between fast digestable and slow digestable components. Like the soup in the picture. This is a soup I made freestyle. It means I can’t tell you exactly what the used amounts of ingredients are. But I can sure tell you what’s in it: ⁃ cauliflower ⁃ loads of carrot ⁃ fried onion ⁃ onion broth ⁃ fresh ginger ⁃ Philadelphia cream cheese ⁃ curcuma topped with: ⁃ fresh and fine chopped leek ⁃ fresh fine chopped red onion Ok, so if you have a clue about food in general, you may be wondering: yeah, yeah, but where’s the fast digestive stuff then? Well, a) the soup has been blended, which makes it easier to digest. The leek and onion however, make it harder to digest. B) If you look at the picture you’ll see filled tortilla rolls in the background. And THOSE are the mean fast digesting high carb bastards! 😂 Had I only eaten those rolls, I would have eaten too many and I would have felt hungry again in no time. But, combined with this delicious soup, I felt stuffed for hours. As a food coach I can teach you how you can create recipes like this from scratch too. For some, been out eating out of home might throw off their diet plan or cause stress. . ✋️Seriously, it doesn't have to be that way. With a good plan at hand, you're able to deal with every kind of situation. . 1. Plan Ahead: You can always have a look at the restaurants website on which you'll find their menu. Take a look at it, find the best options for you and think about what you'd like to get later, now you'll have the rest of the day without that stress in mind. . If you are into macro counting, you can always borrow some macros from other days of the week but don't go overboard with it. I recommend to allow for up to 20% of macros to borrow maximum, knowing your next week will be shortened with calories. . 2. Stay Hydrated: Absolutely avoid being ravenously hungry when the time comes. This will only increase your likelihood of overeating at the restaurant. Make sure you drink water leading up to the time you'll be having your meal outside home, and drink plenty throughout the meal, so you get fuller quickly . 3. Go basic: Don't try the fanciest meal on the menu. There will be times in which you can do that but if you're working on your fat/weight loss this is something I wouldn't recommend. Always pick foods/meals that are bit more plain and simple so that they're easy to track. . 4. Dont be shy.. dont be afraid to ask.. just ask: asking doesn't cost extra. So, simply ask if you could get your dressing on the side or if they can leave the butter. . So, eating out while dieting doesn't need to be a thing that only happens in your dreams. These Fruits at the bottom are great ‘snacks’ you can eat sparingly while trying to lose weight on keto. I truly believe fructose in consistent amounts can stall weightloss. I’ve had clients, I take the fruit away and keep carbs the same and weight drops. You might feel different but if you have hit a stall just try taking them out. . We have to be aware that “keto friendly “ foods are not things to enjoy everyday. CHRISTMAS AND WEIGHT LOSS (PART 2):⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ So, if you haven’t read my post on Christmas...⁣ ⁣ Scroll back and do that now 🤞⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ But in a nutshell, I spoke about how for most people, rather than actually trying to actively lose weight⁣ ⁣ It could be wise to bring calories up to maintenance, as a means of allowing you a bit more flexibility ⁣ ⁣ Without sabotaging progress⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ In general, a lot of people seemed to like that approach⁣ ⁣ But, I had a few questions from people saying they really struggle with binging over Christmas⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ So if you are someone, who has a tendency to totally lose control and binge this time of year ⁣ ⁣ You need to address that first⁣ ⁣ Easier said then done... I know ⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ But if you are constantly worrying about food⁣ ⁣ And trying to restrict one day, because you know you will have an event the next day, where you will inevitably binge⁣ ⁣ You are just feeding into the poor relationship you have with food ⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ So rather than actually trying to hit maintenance, or any other arbitrary calorie goal⁣ ⁣ Stop worrying and thinking about it CONSTANTLY, and you might find It’s easier to moderate your intake⁣ ⁣ If you are constantly worrying about overeating, you will be thinking about food all day long. Hence why you are more likely to binge 🤔⁣ ⁣ By consciously saving up 1500 calories for the work Xmas party because you know your going to be binging on sausage rolls and quality street⁣ ⁣ Just affirms that it is, going to happen⁣ ⁣ And at this point, it’s easy to totally lose control⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ Focusing on a calorie goal, when you are in some crazy binge restrict cycle, isn’t very helpful ⁣ ⁣ So just chill out a bit⁣ ⁣ If you’re finding yourself constantly restricting to justify regular binges⁣ ⁣ You are missing the point 🤷‍♂️⁣ ⁣ -⁣ ⁣ These are just some thoughts I’ve been having, after listening to what some of you had to say⁣ ⁣ And although I still think aiming for maintenance, opposed to being in a deficit is still the best approach for MOST people this time of year⁣ ⁣ I just feel that overly obsessing about overeating around Christmas, can just make the situation worse 🤷‍♂️⁣ ⁣ Let me know what you think down below 👇💬
There is so much information out there about what foods are healthy and nutritious and what foods are not. Despite this, many people are still overweight. Why? Because many of us were never taught how to manage our emotions when the downs of life hit us. And the downs of life are inevitable. We are meant to experience negative emotion. And we are meant to experience positive emotion. The problem is many of us have turned to food as a way to cope with our negative emotions. Despite our good intentions to eat clean and healthy, our subconscious mind is extremely powerful and will always bring us back to the habits of our identity. If we identify as an emotional eater, these are the thoughts we'll be having and our mind will always find evidence to prove our thoughts. There are many different ways to manage your negative emotions that don't rely on food. The first place to start is by looking at the thoughts you're having that are creating these emotions. The next thing is to realise that an emotion is simply a vibration in your body. It is harmless. Next, we need to learn how to be okay with feeling our negative emotions and accepting them as valid, rather than covering them up with food. There are also coping mechanisms like deep breathing, meditation, journal long etc. Once we know how to manage our emotions, we can implement the nutritious foods into our lives with ease. You'd never guess this was 450kcal! Creamy Chicken Risotto packed full of nutrients and flavour! 🤗 - Serves 4 (450kcal per serving) - 1 tbsp Olive Oil 265g Chicken Breast 1 Red Onion 1 Bell Pepper A couple handfuls of Mushrooms 3 Garlic Cloves 350g Risotto Rice 1L good quality Chicken Stock 15g Butter 25g Parmesan A handful of Fresh Parsley - 1. Bring a large frying pan (a wok works well) to a high heat before adding the Olive Oil. - 2. Place the finely diced Chicken Breast in the pan and cook until it turns to a golden brown. - 3. Add the finely chopped Red Onion, Bell Peppers and Mushrooms and cook until the onions begin to soften. - 4. Add the finely chopped Garlic Cloves and cook for a further 2 minutes before reducing to the lowest heat. - 5. Add the Chicken Stock to a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer. - 6. Add the Risotto Rice to the frying pan before giving the contents of the pan a good stir. - 7. Keep adding ladlefuls of hot stock, stirring and almost massaging the creamy starch out of the rice, allowing each ladleful to be absorbed before adding the next. Repeat the process for 15 minutes. - 8. Once you pass the 15 minute mark, it’s time to start tasting. The rice should be soft on the outside with a slight bite in the middle. If the rice isn’t quite cooked, continue adding stock. You can add boiling water if you run out of stock. - 9. When the rice is cooked, remove the pan from the heat before stirring in the Butter and Parmesan Cheese. - 10. Place a lid on the pan and leave to stand for 2 minutes before serving. This part of the recipe is very important as it brings out the creaminess in the risotto. If you don’t have a lid, use foil. - 11. Finish by stirring in the chopped Fresh Parsley.

5 Tips for better meal prepping 🥔🍲🍗🥕⠀ ⠀ ✔️Find a recipe that you'll actually eat and make it easy to prep - I love finding recipes that I can throw on one pan and cook. They make for easy prep and easy cleanup (same goes for crockpot meals)!⠀ ⠀ ✔️Go to the grocery store with a list - How often do you go to the store and wonder what to make for the week? Instead, sit down and fin the recipes you want and write out a list of the ingredients as well as your snacks, and breakfast foods.⠀ ⠀ ✔️Stock up on meal prep containers or any kind really, just make sure you have enough for a week's worth of meals. ⠀ ⠀ ✔️Make the time - It only takes 1-2 hours a week to make a solid 10 meals. Stop making excuses for yourself and start taking responsibility. If you want to make progress you're going to have to make this a priority.
