When I write a program for myself or for my clients or students normally I program get-ups at the beginning of the training session. The get-up is an exercise that contains multiple fundamental movement patterns, & moves through multiple planes of motion, therefore, I see get-ups as something that helps to warm-up the body & prep the central nervous system. . In addition, since the get-up requires a lot of brain power & coordination while holding a weight overhead, I also see the get-up as an exercise that requires skill. Itโ€™s not something I would normally want students or clients doing after conditioning. . Structure of my programming usually looks like this: . 1๏ธโƒฃWarm-up . 2๏ธโƒฃSkill - do highly skilled movements first before body is fatigued . 3๏ธโƒฃStrength . 4๏ธโƒฃConditioning . HOWEVER, @strongfirst Simple & Sinister is set up so that you complete get-ups AFTER heavy 1 hand (1H) swings (i.e. conditioning). This is one of the challenges of Simple & Sinister, but also, there is a method to this madness, as the technique of maintaining a packed shoulder is required for both 1H swings & get-ups & the half kneeling windmill hinge in the get-up compliments the ballistic hinge of the 1H swing. Therefore the movements do pair well together. . In order to prepare both my body & my mind for this exercise order, while training for Sinister over the past 4 wks, I have been finishing my training sessions with get-ups AFTER conditioning. . For Sinister, at first this new order of swings or snatches before get-ups was a little bit of a shock to what my body was used to, but my body has adapted to the new order over these past 4 wks. . This is a workout I used for three of my in-person clients yesterday, so I guess it counts as a #wednesdayworkout even though itโ€™s Thursday? Iโ€™m just gonna go with that! โ€”โ€” Iโ€™m posting all three versions to show how easy it is to tweak a workout to fit you. A workout has chin-ups in it and you canโ€™t do a chin-up yet? Great: you can do jumping chin-ups, or banded chin-ups, or the assisted chin-up machine. You can even sub in a different pulling motion as I did for my 3rd client, who is dealing with some cranky shoulder issues. โ€”โ€” Tailoring is key here. Happy Leg-day to all. questions I get asked a lot about: how to go about starting to get fit and building muscle, losing fat, etc, etc. I recommend a few things first if youโ€™re new and donโ€™t want to hire a coach/nutritionist to write you out a meal plan each week/month. Knowledge is power, anyone? Let me teachhhhh. Key things below to start researching/asking individuals about who are more knowledgeable: A healthy metabolism/hormonal system-physiologic wise. Basic Knowledge in the macro department and knowing the general idea of what constitutes as a carb/fat/protein and how much you NEED of each given your activity level. (Google that ish) How many kcals youโ€™ve been consuming generally speaking RIGHT NOW (compared to how much YOU need to be eating based off of variables) A workout plan to follow that fits your own personal life and stress level. Preferably lifting/resistance style training mixed with cardiovascular training instead of one over the other. A self-confidence level that allows you to BELIEVE you can do this. All of this above may be difficult to address and implement. Itโ€™s hard to change habits. My goal when I help someone whether in person at @completenutritionbg (Totally come talk with me if you ever want too) or by phone/text/email is to have you walk away feeling more knowledgeable, more motivated, and more self-sufficient in this area in your journey to health and happiness. There are a thousand ways to do fitness, find your way and live your life. :) the best plan is the plan you can stick with. And thatโ€™s a fact. It may be hard, but thatโ€™s why itโ€™s a journey and your journey will change over time. Growth is possible in this!
