The Lion King (1994). This film is the peak for the Disney Renaissance Era! If the opening number doesn’t blow you away then I don’t know what will! Most people I know always pick the Lion King as their favorite and for good reason.
The music is off the charts and the fact that it’s Elton John who composed this animated musical feature goes to show that we the audience are going to get a spectacle. The soundtrack is part of my childhood and immediately in a matter of minutes it feels as though time stops itself and I get to enjoy the pure magic of animation.
The cast is astounding with James Earl Jones as Mufasa (the fact they recast him in the remake goes to show how commanding of presence he has), Jeremy Irons as Scar, Matthew Broderick as adult Simba and the list goes on. Each one adds variety and flavor to this film that it’s never a dull moment.
This is also one of the most emotional films for Disney audience and even though I’ve watched this about a thousand times, seeing Mufasa getting killed is devastating and having children react to that is one of the reasons why film allows us to have empathy and animation is able to capture our attention.
Overall I am ecstatic to revisit this classic and realize this film will never age. It’s one reason why I wanted to invest in this Disney Marathon! Circle of Life is the cornerstone of animation! (5/5 Stars)
P.S. I’m excited for the remake but at the same token while watching this film I can see where certain scenes are going to be exact replica from the original which I don’t like. Also the remake is not Live-Action! It requires real people on screen to be live-action it’s really motion capture cgi animation.
