This is me in my natural habitat...messy hair, definitely do care, but let's be real, I've never been much of a hair and make up gal, so working from home suits me well.
Just wanted to pop in this morning and say HEY!
Life is pretty solitary when you work from home, but thankfully with the internet we can all congregate around the virtual watercooler, and have a chat.
So a little about me, I'm Lauren, and I spend my days recording from my home studio in Hershey, PA 🍫. I do a little bit of everything, from commercials to corporate narration, audiobooks to on hold messages, and everything in between.
I didn't always know I would end up as a voice actor, but I knew I wanted to be a performer. I've been lucky to find a little corner of the industry that fits me perfectly, and I look forward to getting behind the mic every day.
How about you? What's one thing you love about your job?

Top Tip No.2: Prepare Your Environment
It’s essential to minimize background noise when filming. Hey Mic! is great at this but we thought we’d give you some further tips to help, because we’re nice like that.
Some tips may be familiar but we make no apologies as missing out one or two could make the difference to the audio quality of your video.
Make sure you put your phone on do not disturb
Turn off fans, air conditioners, washing machines, dishwashers, TVs, radios etc. Also make sure that you can’t hear the lawn mowers or other machinery in the background.
If filming at home, make sure it’s not on a day when your rubbish is being collected and take away squeaky toys from the dog (yep, we learned these lessons the hard way!)
Close all windows and doors
Be aware if it’s a windy day – can you hear the breeze?
Find a legally acceptable way to silence small children 👶
If your venue is on a busy stretch of road, close your eyes and listen – if you can hear the traffic, make sure you are using Hey Mic! so that your listeners won’t hear any background noise!
Be aware of other people speaking in the background, this is especially important if you are filming testimonials after a presentation. Find a quiet spot and use Hey Mic! to help capture the speaker clearly even in crowded environments.
Did we miss any? Let us know 😊

For me, drama school wasn't enough. In fact, I felt there were still huge areas which I still hadn't explored after my three years of training at Central.
Any technique taught badly won't work. Taught adequately, it tends to work adequately. But it was only after graduating that I found the teachings of Sanford Meisner really click with me.
We'd touched on it in training and I'd been stimulated by it, but it was a necessarily bastardised version because of the lack of time. But through a process of trial and error I found a teacher and a group tgat really clicked with me. Not because the feedback was always positive, but because I understood exactly where it was coming from. There was no mystique. It was always practical. AND the person who taught it, was always constructive and without ego.
I'm an individual who likes being in class. I don't have endless auditions to keep me 'in shape', and it's far too easy to get slack. Attention, focus, text work and emotional access are all things I need to keep practising to get better. But only when I trust the framework.
The same goes for voiceover. I've worked with tutors I 'just don't get' or whose perspective is radically different to my own. Sometimes that's invaluable, but the key is to find someone who is good for you and keep FEEDING from them... hence why working with Nancy Wolfson is great. She's direct, brutal, but has a clear approach and specialises in areas beyond my natural skill set.
So here's to lifelong learning. Find out how to do it cheaply, practically, but most of all effectively. Learn through trial and error what works for you, and keep stretching. That's the only way to get better - but just as importantly, to keep yourself STIMULATED.
