Murmuration time. // My first live sighting of a starling murmuration, just outside of Oxford - it was so stunning even if the actual murmuration didn’t last long. But the starlings kept coming in from every possible direction, in outstretched flocks, going straight for the reed over there. It was fantastic to watch and hard to believe they all fit in there! . . . . #agameoftones #wildernesstones #wildernessculture #adventureeverywhere #theoutdoorfolk #landscapecapture #wekeepmoments #rsa_outdoors #theoutbound #thewanderco #moodygrams #thisprettyengland #visitengland #gloriousbritain #britainsgottalent #icu_britain #folkgrammer #bestunitedkingdom #folkscenery #charmingbritain #ukscenery #genuinebritain #landscapes_of_britain #britains_talent #wildlifephotography #wanderxwonder #ukwildlife #icu_britain #britishbirds #britishwildlife #bbcautumnwatch
Having spent half a day surrounded by them, I'll never confuse a hornet with a wasp again. Not only are they much larger, they sound like a Spitfire when they buzz past your ear! #hornet #insect_macro #insectsofinstagram #insect_addict #macrophotography #macro_brilliance #macro_insects #total_macro #total_insects #ip_connect #ip_wideview #ip_insects #igclub_insects #kings_insects #ukwildlife #dorsetwildlife #dorsetwildlifetrust #rspbarne #visitdorset #visitengland
No.489 - I have so much love for the ravey Roveys. These awesome beetles have entertained me almost all year, from early March, right up to last week. They must be one of our most successful beetle families; visible pretty much all year round, adapted to most habitats, and comprising one of the largest species counts of the Coleoptera families. They also have THE best wing folding mechanism in the world. Because the Staphylinidae have greatly shortened elytra, they have to fold their wings up horizontally and vertically to store them away. It is an incredible thing to watch a rove beetle origami its wings up into such a tiny space. This little chap (and by little, it's one of the smallest Staphs I've seen yet) was doing just that, and I just caught the end of the packaging process. Along with spider webs, rove beetle wing stowage is one of my favourite things to watch in the wild. This one is probably one of the Oxytelinae family and possibly Oxytelus sp. ::: #500species2018 #RoveBeetle #Oxytelinae #Staphylinidae #dorset #rovey #ukwildlife #beetle #naturereserve #bioblitz #bbcnature #wildlife #escarabajo #dorsetwildlife #wildlifephotographer #entomology #purbeck #rspblovenature #canon #naturelovers #rspb #springwatch #britishbeetles #buglife #swanage #origamimaster #wings

Long tailed tit. Keeping still. For more than a second. In sunlight. I've seen rocking horse poo more times than I've experienced this 😁 #longtailedtit #tit #ukwildlife #rspbarne #dorsetwildlife #dorsetwildlifetrust #visitengland #visitdorset
‘Painted gull’ I just thought with this photo let me tweak it as if I was painting. I think I am fortunate to be able to enjoy the painting medium too - interestingly my painting subjects are humans not animals! I enjoyed capturing this shot and hope you like it too. It's been an exhausting rutting season for the fallow deer.
There’s a bounty on his head 🚫🔫
Another shot of the somewhat spooky-looking amethyst deceiver mushroom (Laccaria amethystina). I think their name sounds like an awesome villain 😈Seen quite a lot of it this year, under beech trees being the best place to look for me!

SOUND ON 🔊 Not the most thrilling video ever- but I just love the incredible variety of noises starlings can make 😍 I filmed this chattery bunch at Spurn Point a few weeks back, and I don’t know about you, but I can distinctly hear them mimicking curlew calls here? There were several curlew feeding in the estuary just meters away, so at least I could see where they got the inspiration 🤷‍♀️🤓
Bird feeders can be awesome places for all kinds of wildlife, not just birds! Spotted this little guy scampering around the undergrowth collecting all the seed that had fallen to the floor! #wildlifephotography #miceofinstagram #instamouse #Norfolk #mouse #mice #naturehippies_ #wildlife #uknaturecollective #ukwildlife #mammal #mammalsofinstagram #mammals #rodent #ukwildlifeimages #30dayswild #nature_photography #nature #norfolkbroads #naturephotography #conservationphotography #autumnwatch @thewildlifetrusts
A curious European robin. These little guys are one of my favourite British birds (such a cliche!) but they’re cute, friendly and did I mention CUTE?! 🧡 Like many other small birds, they have a high mortality rate. The fat stores they put on in winter only last a few days days, so they need a constant supply of food to make it through the colder months

A Narrow-bordered bee hawk-moth (Hemaris tityus), photographed by Tamás Nestor. Can be seen in May and June feeding at flowers, such as Bugle, louseworts and Marsh Thistle. • • • #instanature #instagood #britishwildlife #moth #moths #wildlife #nature #beauty #Autumn #macro #photooftheday #instagardeners #ukwildlife #savebutterflies #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #Photography #love #WednesdayWisdom #Photooftheday #beautiful #MidWeek #Animal #Picoftheday

I know everyone's probably seen this already but it's the last day of voting for the British photography awards. Like all great models, this stag found his light perfectly.
When your having tea and a robin joins you. 😊
