Some surprisingly low speed figures on paper relative to his hype as a 2019 Kentucky Derby prospect. Unlike in some other instances, this is not a case of Beyer Speed Figures and TimeformUS ratings disagreeing, either, as neither scale paints the Mark Casse trainee as particularly fast in his last race.
Yet, War of Will is a heavy favorite in the Grade 2, $1 million Louisiana Derby on Saturday at Fair Grounds, where 11 horses are entered to run nine furlongs.
The winner will earn 100 Kentucky Derby 2019 qualifying points and the runner-up will pick up 40 points, making the first two positions likely automatic qualifiers for the big race.
With 60 points, War of Will technically doesn't even need to hit the board to proceed. Given that, trainer Mark Casse might not push him as hard to win this one. .
March 18, 2019 - AZT Day 3 (~24 miles)

Painful, hot, steep, and glorious, day 3 ended with clean running water and electricity at Kentucky Camp.
The horses are back at Churchill!!
Week 4 of the 2019 Kentucky Derby Media poll. Game Winner still leads Improbable atop the rankings even after both suffered their first career defeats in split divisions at Oaklawn Park.
“Don't discount the Baffert horses’ performances,” said the Buffalo News’ Gene Kershner. “The goal is to be at peak on the first Saturday in May.” “Improbable and Game Winner lost their battles Saturday,” added Churchill Downs’ Darren Rogers, “but I still believe they are the two best prospects to win the war.”
As I post this I'm on my way into Idyllwild. 2 weeks, 2 percent... pace isnt there yet but the trail sure is. Was amazing to see Strange abird again, too. The man is gonna do great things and help set a new tone of respect for the trail and the community. After an unexpected triple-zero at Mike's Place to help Strange Bird out, I feel my recovery is beyond full. The day I left I nighthiked until dawn, pacing 20 miles without effort. .
San Jacinto is coming up: it's time to get moving folks! 40 somewhat miles of snippets of what is waiting for us to north. Knowing of only a handful of individuals who have even ventured into the San Jacinto wilderness this season kinda nudges me into taking it on myself already. I feel ready.
My 2nd The Trek blog post will be up in a bit. Gonna be talking about the trail so far, trail thoughts, and localized plans as I push on North. When I get into town and find wifi, I'll continue posting the unedited vlogs I've already forgotten i have lol Stay tuned!

St Patrick's in the mountains!
Day: 13 Miles: 21.9
Hot Springs I made it! Honestly one of my favorite stops along the trail. And you did not disappoint. Stayed at Laughing Heart Hostel (just ok) and spent most of my time at the Tavern (just amazing). Locals bought be beverages all evening and we proceeded to have a dance party in the closed Bluff Mountain Outfitters.
9 - Theodore Samuel Williams was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played his entire 19-year Major League Baseball career as a left fielder for the Boston Red Sox from 1939 to 1960; his career was interrupted only by mandatory military service during World War II and the Korean War.
Nicknamed "The Kid," "The Splendid Splinter," "Teddy Ballgame," and "The Thumper," Williams is regarded as one of the greatest players in baseball history. Williams was a nineteen-time All-Star, a two-time recipient of the American League (AL) Most Valuable Player Award, a six-time AL batting champion, and a two-time Triple Crown winner. He finished his playing career with a .344 batting average, 521 home runs, and a .482 on-base percentage, the highest of all time. His career batting average is the highest of any MLB player whose career was played primarily in the live-ball era, and ranks tied for 7th all-time.
