One of my favorite exercises to do on shoulder days is military press, but as we all know, squat racks are a popular item at the gym. When all of the squat racks are taken and I don’t want to wait fo one to open up, I like to utilize the smith machine instead. Of course it’s not quite the same as using a bar, but it is a great substitute.
I usually like to do half of my sets of military press with a wide grip and half with a narrow grip. Doing this allows me to hit my shoulders from slightly different angles, while still using the same muscles. A wide grip places more emphasis on your delta lowers the range of motion, whereas a narrow grip hits your triceps more and allows for a bit higher range of motion at the elbows. When performing the exercise, regardless of your choice of grip, make sure to not bring the bar down to low to avoid injuring your shoulder joints.
What are some of your favorite shoulder exercises? Drop them in the comments and have a lovely day! 😊
