What a failure...., so sad to see this laksa place go bad. Suppose to be the originator of broken noodle spoon laksa but they just cut up the noodles with scissors and it’s waaaaay to long to use your spoon. The cockles waaaay too raw and glad I didn’t get a tummy ache. Soup not hot enough guess that’s the reason why the cockles are under cook. Remember coming here sixteen years ago the old man with the copper pot boiling up pipping hot soup, then it was proper....sigh.....
🍘: Pork zongzi
📍: Jia Ji Mei Shi (Chinatown Complex) | Singapore
🗣️: Anyone who's ever been to dim sum with me knows that these bamboo-wrapped, meat-filled sticky rice dumplings are my absolute favourite thing to order. As a kid I used to always beg my mom to make them, but since they're so time intensive she rarely did. Fortunately they're available everywhere in Malaysia and Singapore, so I've been eating them pretty regularly since I got here. The one I had last night at the Chinatown Complex hawker center was the best I've ever had, and I'm already planning on going back for another after my workout today 😈
42/50 Bad Burger! 🍔
Gluten free burgers. Vegetarian ones too! It’s the holy grail of comfort food in Bangkok and I’m pretty sure our kid must be part burger if I think how many times we ate here when I was pregnant 😬 so so tasty! (I’m told the meat is good too...)
Hokkien law mee 福建鹵麵 Breakfast in bed singapore style! Shrimp, squid, egg with slices of pork bell, the key for this dish is to have prawn broth being cooked with the noodles to add more shrimp flavor
When it's cold and you're Hungry, what's your go-to comfort food? Mine is a nice Hot ramen! 🍜 -
I was shocked how cold it got already in Banff. It felt like winter at times already, going below 0 and snowing heavily. 🌨 Definitely craved for ramen.
We were surprised to find @RamenArashiBanff
, a ramen joint from Japan. Note though, the noodles aren't homemade. Ingredients seems to have been pre-cooked mostly, just assembled and heated on order since our ramen came out pretty fast after we ordered. It's still satisying in the cold day though! 😊

For our first lunch in Cancun, Mexico we headed down the hotel strip to this teeny wee place where locals were eating lunch! It was cheap & cheerful, and our micheladas (mexican beer with spices, lime & salt) were huge.
The guacamole was freshly made & tasted great, while the burritos were a sort of 'design your own' style. We were given a small sheet of paper with boxes to tick for our selection of meat or fish, salsas, cheese, beans, rice, tortillas, spices & herbs.

🍵🥐: Matcha almond croissant
🗣️: I firmly believe there's no such thing as a bad almond croissant, but some of them are just a little better than others. This matcha almond croissant is one of those standouts. This is definitely up there with @runnerandstone
's almond croissant, my gold standard - it's so good that I went back 12 hours later to get another one for pre-breakfast 😬
Charcoal grilled kampong chicken wings, the chard and the chicken oil dripping on hot coal smoking up to flavor the wings, just amazing!
Going on two hours of dead-heading 15 marigold plants in our herb garden & I’m wondering if companion planting is worth it.
‘Our herb garden’ website seems to say keep going... but don’t just rely on marigolds.
As autumn slowly approaches their bright colour is certainly heartening! And I was happy to read it enhances the growth of basil.
That would do it for me.
We love basil; have 4 overgrown bushes.
The humble marigold also protects aubergine, squash & tomatoes - also relevant to our small patch.
And if you have cucumber, gourds, potatoes or kale (peleeeze grow next year...) then marigolds will do you lots of favours, deterring beetles & certain nematodes & aphids.
The roots of French marigolds can apparently be an effective pesticide for years after the plants have been removed....!!
And Mexican marigolds, of which we have quite a few, are even stronger & can affect tender herbs - yikes! Perhaps that’s why our coriander gave up the ghost...

I was surprised to find a smoothie bowl in the Vienna airport 😛 Felt great to find something fresh and healthy amidst all the typical pub fare and baked goods 🍍🍌🌱
🐙: Grilled octopus
🗣️: I usually try to avoid going to European restaurants in Asia because I find they just can't nail the subtleties of European cooking - but when I saw this octopus on the menu at Bakalaki I knew I had to have it. And it was worth the exorbitant price - the octopus was perfectly grilled, comparable to some of the best I had in Portugal and Spain. The rest of the food was so-so (we're truly spoiled when it comes to Mediterranean cuisine in NYC) but the overall dining experience was excellent and a much-needed break from street food.
Fried noodle in dark soy sauce, Chinese sausage, fresh cockle clams, bean sprouts and egg. Lot tastier than the one I tried on my last trip, soy sauce not overpowering and not overly sweet, can taste all the ingredients
