~<|>~IN NEED OF GOOD KNEES~<|>~ As January fast approaches eager beavers everywhere begin to think about starting up exercise, one of the most popular choices is running! Now running can be fantastic, BUT one of the most significant problems is doing too much too soon, it can take its toll your body and especially on your knees!
Time to get them strong and ready to support you... These three exercises are fantastic staple exercises to build up knee strength and stability ... 1. Decline slant board toe taps - these are great for a bit of patella tendon burnout, the slant board increases workout load on the knee and quadriceps. The band adds fantastic work through the glutes of the working leg as well as introducing stability.
2. Swiss Ball hamstring curls (as your strength increases drop to single leg curls) - The hamstrings are a biarticular muscle group, this means they cross two joints, the hip, and the knee. The hamstrings are therefore super crucial for both knee and hip health. For your knees to be strong and stable, the quads and hamstrings (and of course glutes) need to be working efficiently. Therefore don't neglect your hamstring by just doing lot's of squats, give these hamstring curls a try to!
3. Eccentric Single leg squats - A slow and controlled single leg squat is an excellent way to get all the muscles of the hip, knee, and ankle working in harmony. If you run, you will notice you spend all your time on one leg - if both of your legs are in contact with the ground you're walking! Therefore utilising single leg work is essential for all runners training plans.

Zoey’s mom is amazing!!!!! Zoey has been working on confidence building and leash reactivity. We’ve worked through the Relaxation Protocol and Mom, as you can see, has gone full speed ahead on her own teaching tricks and other amazing behaviors! All of this build confidence. Today we worked Zoey outdoors with Stuffed Chuck and she crushed it!!!!!! No reactivity and full attention on mom. Video to come.... I love it 😍 #leashreactivity #reactivedog #confidencebuilding #dogtricks #dogenrichment #dogtraining
Having fun with “Heel.” This four week class gives brain calorie outlets, a new recall, and the skills for handler and dog to greet strangers while passing in close proximity. This class had so much fun we are creating the next level of precision Heeling!!!! Coming soon. . .
I thought maybe we could wrap, but, uh, Ryker had other thoughts.
I’ve organically started using the word ‘ready’ to see if he wants to engage. It’s advanced to a point where if he hears an airplane, I cue ‘ready,’ he will go get the toy he wants to play with in that moment. Fascinating, intelligent kiddo. But that’s not in this clip. 😏
This? It’s a closer-up version of a really happy, soft waggy-tailed dog who knows what the rules are and trusts he will be trained - educated - about what *is* allowed.
Ryker and I have built a relationship on trust by using fetch as the language. Modeled after Chirag Patel’s “Bucket Game,” Ryker can tell me whether he is ready to engage or if he needs some time, space, or both.
Rules of engagement:
- deliver toy to hands
- wait, sit, or down gets the toss
- if you’re quiet, the toss happens faster
- if you struggle (airplanes!), I will keep your focus and just toss so you’ll stay engaged - I will give you space if you need to mouth or shred a toy (stress relief!) Considering he was wound quite tightly when he arrived, he’s come a long, long way. He offers behaviors (and ignores suggestions 😏), engages appropriately, and truly does trust that I’m on his team.
There are several videos coming...I started with this one as he frisbee is ‘my’ favorite and it makes me giddy when he brings it to me to engage. (He doesn’t bring it to me in this clip, but he does nearly every morning)

What’s this?! Oh, just a massive dog on his way (back) to Michigan.
Yes, Ryker is coming back to Meadowland. After a long week of sleuthing into his history before entering rescue, it was decided he needs to spend some more time learning that the world isn’t a scary place and that people won’t abuse (what they call) training tools.
There is only love surrounding him - from his transporters, the organization, the couple who really wanted to make it work, and, of course, me.
More details may be divulged if/when I’m ready to talk about them. It’s been a week full of anger and heartbreak on his behalf...and we are all still processing the information.
Welcome back, Ryker. See you in a few hours.

anyone?? Practitioners treat each other. Emily is an LNP for #MedOne
and is an avid runner. This spunky, sweet incredible healer comes to me 2x a month for her recovery. 8 sessions and she runs pain free. Now we maintain her recovery and are fixing her gait with toe spacers for her bunions and maintaining pain free movement with stretching, soft tissue and cupping. I have to thank the amazing trainers at @milehighrunclub
for sending me such a wonderful athlete.

Ike: working on being polite on-leash (and losing some of our winter ‘padding’ - both of us!) He was so polite today that I didn’t even slip on the ice when 2 squirrels AND a deer crossed the street in front of us!
Y’all might see leaf piles and snowbanks...we saw sniffing opps and cardio conditioning (while working on “up/off” and “over”). #notalionbutagolden #immagooddog #stoic #lifeofadogtrainer #longsnouts
Years ago, a Hiking Boot Angel created T H E perfect boot fit for at EMS in SoHo. They fit like a glove. .
Putting them on this morning not only brings back a flood of memories; they mean I'm back to work. And, laws, I'm coming out guns blazing because there are SO. MANY. EXCITING. THINGS. HAPPENING. .

Pain management: A major important part of my life which I take seriously. I'm not a huge fan of taking pain medication due to my previous leg injury after so many years I needed to find alternatives. I use a device called Pain Away Pen which is a pain relief pen working on the same methods as acupuncture. The minute I feel my tennis elbow pain starting to reappear I use this pen at work, before and after the gym and before bed. This helps me manage my pain without pill medication. You can use it over thin layers or direct onto skin. It really helps me so if you've never researched into alternative pain management choices watch this space. I have a few more to follow.

Meet Bruno. 6 months old, long-haired GSD, and already approaching 100lbs. He's the epitome of 'gentle giant' in the body of a baby.

Fun time today,, got to run on closed bike course thru downtown Reno. Criterium style 5 laps. Ran horrible, doesn't matter, but had a BLAST !!
Hey peeps! In my previous video I am wearing what looks like a yellow headband/bandeau. This is somewhat correct...I am actually wearing a set of 'Halo' earphones.
Due to my teeny tiny ear canals I am unable to wear earbud type earphones due to pain. I searched high and low for something external to the ear that wouldn't slip off when I worked out. These earphones are fabulous. They are flat and slip into the bandeau which goes around your head just like a halo.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Great sound; they stay in place (even during high impact/aerobic/HIIT training) and slip out do the bandeau can be washed.
The earphones and bandeaus come in a variety of colours and are very reasonably priced.
Cable runs down your back...sweatproof speakers...no pressure on sensitive ears.

There's hundreds of ways you can do pushups. The best ones to do are the ones that you feel the most, not just going through the motions. Over the years I've evolved in the way I teach people pushups, especially those who have sensitive wrists from previous injuries. (Including myself from all of my skating falls & crashes)
Performing pushups with your wrists in a slightly less flexed position can be more comfortable, and allow you to feel the muscles you are trying to work. Sabine doesn't have any wrist issues, and if she did we could even try to have her hands grabbing more on top of the bar keeping the wrists even straighter.
I was just giving a variation to the regular Pushup that allows you to get a good stretch in the chest and arms. This could be a great warmup for someone who is great at pushups. This allows you to loosen up your upper body without putting a huge strain on it compared to a regular Pushup not on your knees.
You can even use dumbbells or a half bosu flipped upside down as variations to perform pushups keeping less pressure on the wrists. The next thing to do if this doesn't help is to try some wrist wraps. That can keep enough compression on the wrist to diminish some discomfort. Get creative and try different pushups that you can feel with no wrist pain!
