💫WEDNESDAY WISDOM💫 _______ 💭DID YOU KNOW?💭 •Research on self compassion shows that self love is associated with less anxiety and depressions and better recovery from stress ______ So I had a nerd moment earlier and found myself reading another PsychologyToday article which suggested 6 steps to self love that I thought I’d share with all of you lovely followers ❣️ ______ 1️⃣Recognise you’re experiencing emotional distress or mental suffering 2️⃣Accept that the feeling is there 3️⃣Imagine what you might feel if you saw a loved experiencing this feeling 4️⃣Challenge your negative story about yourself 5️⃣Decide what it would take to forgive yourself e.g. if you’ve resorted to self harm, addiction, relapse 6️⃣Use self talk to encourage yourself e.g. it doesn’t help to beat yourself up, everyone makes mistakes sometimes... _______ 💫Try following these steps to encourage more self compassion into your life! Even if you’re not dealing with MH issues this can be really helpful if you often put yourself down for not achieving what you want or being negative about your own progress - make yourself your own life coach and encourage the positivity and compassion you deserve!💫

It was strange being on the flip side of the tragedy of suicide and it hit me hard. I started to get a feel for the people I would leave behind and what I’ve put them through so far. I’m still processing it but one thing I do know is I don’t want to lose anyone else to #suicide and I’m working harder to raise the profile of #suicideawareness and #suicideprevention and create networks where openness and acceptance of struggles with #mentalhealth and #mentaillness is key. Suicide is still so taboo and whilst that’s the mindset people will continue to feel shame and hide instead of seeking help which only costs lives. Committed to not being okay. —— I love this photo. There is a girl in this photo. She is probably the nicest person I have ever met. Always putting others way before herself. Working non-stop. Seriously. It’s like she doesn’t know how to not work. AND on top of all that she still somehow finds time to make (incredible) brownies too! —— For whatever reason over the years I have grown into somebody that is so anxious of change that even my relationships with people become affected. Amy gives everything towards me as a friend and yet I continue to close myself up and push her away. It’s one of the many things that I still need to work on. I originally posted this saying that “mental disorders are brain disorders” and someone pointed out that there’s really no evidence to suggest that mental disorders are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. ⁣ ⁣ Psychiatrists push the chemical imbalance theory, but where is the evidence? I searched the internet but found nothing substantial supporting the chemical imbalance theory. The studies that were done that supposedly link the neurotransmitter serotonin to depression are said to actually be inconclusive. ⁣ ⁣ There is still a lot that is unknown about the cause of mental disorders. @mimi.blue_ , a mental health researcher, says that, “mental disorders are a complex interrelationship between neurobiological makeup and environment.”⁣ ⁣ This message resonated with so many of you that I wanted to recreate it, without any unproven information. ⁣ ⁣ We may not know the exact cause of mental disorders, but this truth remains: they are not your character. Having such awful weather here lately. It’s making me want to just stay inside instead of attempting walks! I’ve spent a little time in the garden today, which is of course better than nothing. But the cold air gets to my chest too quickly and I start to panic about it. So going out on walks is freaking me out a little... We’re apparently in for a storm over these next couple of days too, and I can’t stand them. So staying indoors is 100% my only option for a few days. On Friday, me and my support worker are going to put a plan in place for making my first steps towards going into my local shops... I haven’t been in the shops for 2+ years now. The last time I managed to go in, my Agoraphobia wasn’t so sever, but I had a massive panic attack and had to run home. So I’ve completely avoided them since. Any ways, this will be my first target to meet. I can’t wait! Going to buy my own things instead of relying on others will be huge for me! I rarely admit vulnerability, this is as raw as I get... so here goes. Getting older I struggle to embrace my wrinkles, or aging at all. I’ve realised lately every line tells a story. Most of the lines on my face are a reminder of the good people I’ve cried for, the people I miss, the people I’ve lost... but at the end of the day my wrinkles are most likely caused from those people making me laugh, those same people who made me smile. I would change a lot if I could, but those laughs, those smiles, they are priceless.... Ide rather have wrinkles and know I felt something. The human experience is an uncanny thing... we are all in this together. You are never alone. ❤️ #areyouok took a massive toll on me... it’s not easy to watch a campaign get shared on social media with 3 seconds effort by a million people and nobody actually take action.... Majority of the time, what people with anxiety worry about when they are suffering is something entirely irrational. Just because there is technically “no need” to stress about a certain thing, that doesn’t make the fear any less real. There’s nothing more frustrating than being in the midst of a crippling panic, and someone explaining to you how very ludicrous your fears are. I try so hard to make everything liveable in my own home then someone goes and ruins it all. I spend ages making sure the kitchen is just right, clean and clutter free, the extension is tidy and relaxing and my paper work sorted all into about 39 different folders and for what nothing. The kitchen is back to being a mess again thanks to everyone just leaving things in the side and not putting then away and the extension my mum puts all junk in it so its like not the quiet and relaxing room i wanted i like really give up. My stress levels because of the kitchen just went over the top ans I completely broke down in tears i know extreme but i couldnt help it. If things dont change maybe i should just move out and find my own space as i really cant cope with it all on too of everything else. Let's talk about why I eat a rediculous amount of syns at times ( these were 11) basically if I don't I will continue loosing weight. I weighed today and I have lost more weight. I have no idea what's going on. I have been calorie counting also eating a basic 2300 calories a day plus any from exercise and even doing this I'm loosing weight. I think it's because I've been running off anxiety and restless #manic energy for months and months and it's speeding up everything including my metabolism. I can only eat so much a day so sometimes I make higher syn choices. We are constantly constructing defence mechanisms to keep the world out and to keep our true inner-self as protected as possible. G L A D _ Depression and Anxiety affects 1 in 3 people in the UK. We need to change our connotations of strength. What does it mean to be strong for a man? To not cry? To show no fear? These are the things that make us strong; to strip ourselves bare from our ego and ideations of what and who we should be. To allow ourselves to unveil our deepest sorrows in order for us to heal. This is strength. So next time another man tells you to man up, just remember what that actually means, and what being strong represents. Vulnerability is strength.
🌻Mental health is just as important as physical health🌻 I believe mental health awareness is a huge topic and I would do anything to help those who don't ask for it but are pulling their hair out just for a smile or an "are you okay" from a loved one! I know from experience it can be hard to ask for help but always remember there is always a way from talking to a coach, maybe yoga and meditation, essential oils, eating healthier, starting a hobby etc... GOOD NIGHT, Squirrels! 🐿 . . Oh my goodness! YAY TODAY IS DONE! 💯 This was a highly emotional day for me dealing with real life stuff like divorce, insurance, lawyers, my mental health, and my isolation. Did a lot of parasympathetic breathing while clutching my head, literally looking like a stereotype, thinking I am just going to explode.🤯And I did. And then I cried. Sometimes I just what to toss my hands in the air and just say “Fuck It”. And it’s okay to feel this way as long as I don’t pack my bags and act on my frustrations and these feelings. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 . You’re not alone if you’re struggling or things just aren’t feeling right. Our roads are often winding, unpredictable and what feels like setbacks will happen. Although this may be uncomfortable just know it’s OK. You’re doing just fine. You’re here. You’re scrolling Instagram. Perhaps you’ll come by that special post(s) that brighten your eyes a little bit and you’ll feel a bit lighter, even if it’s for that moment. This would be win!🏆🏆🏆 . Be gentle and still in these moments, and try to learn from them. It’s a great time to use our tools and practice self care. If need be, we can always distract ourselves with movies, games, memes or whatever else strikes our fancy. If we’re able and up for it, having a visit with someone we enjoy to help take our minds off things and make us laugh is also an incredible choice to make!😍😌 . As we grow this may take us away from what is familiar to us, but that’s the beauty of growth and change. It brings us closer to our truer selves and into a whole new world.❤️🐿 . Here’s my story with mental health: When I was 15 years old I got my first panic attack. As the years passed by they just became more frequent, until breathing into a paper bag became part of my routine. I can’t put what it feels like into words but I’ll try: it feels like a wall has been dropped on my chest, I’d try to breathe but air would just be trapped in my throat and pushed out again, my head swirled with thoughts, my eyes filled with tears, I often fainted from hyperventilating. I didn’t fully understand panic attacks at the time, but I knew I had them when I was anxious or upset. I started labeling myself as a worrier, trying to accept that this is just who I am, until I decided to add psychology as a double major in my 2nd year of university, to simply understand how my brain is functioning. Slowly I started changing that O in worrier to an A, turning into a warrior. I chose to cope with my anxiety, instead of denying it. Yoga came into my life in 2013 as a coping mechanism. I have practiced on my own almost everyday for about 2 years before sharing my practice with anyone, it was my mental escape; my safe haven. To this day I still get panic attacks every now and then, only difference is I have learned how to calm myself. Understanding Anxiety: Anxiety is a normal response to danger or stress. It’s our body’s natural alarm. Anxiety is designed to tell us that there is danger so that our bodies can prepare for action... either by fighting the danger or escaping from it.
