by missionaries then turned over to local trustees in #1897
. The board of Ed used the Sunday school and basement as a school there were 6 classrooms in total to help with the overcrowding of city schools. In 1902 parishioner and Bronx resident #JohnMWisker
, a train conductor caused an accident that killed 17 ppl and injured 36 when he ignored a stop sign trying to make up for time since the train was running late and rammed into another passenger train that was stopped. He was acquitted of 2nd degree manslaughter in 1903 but he died in 1909 when he drowned while working on a pier New Jersey.
the church was part of the work bureau that provided married men with two kids work for 5 dollars a day. The church also ran a soup kitchen during that time, serving 6,500 meals a month. The church was torn down in 1940 and the corner area became a parking lot and in the 80s the entire block was an #Oldsmobile
