There’s a new lesson on our website! A cute yet menacing creature is used to depict the hurdles that get in the way of our dreams. We have affectionately named them SMUMPs- when something messes up your plan. We challenge students to not only know that SMUMPs can and WILL get in the way of their goals, but also, plan how they will behave when the SMUMP arrives.

Such an exhausting day, but a great one 🙂👍🏻 One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that when we seem stressed, the kids get stressed. Started some reading tests today and instead of making the students worried I turned it into a challenge and the children really exceeded everything I had planned 😄 Hoping tomorrow is just as great 🤞🏻🤞🏻#keepcalmandteachon
This volunteer cart from @cootiesandcuties
is perfect! How sweet that she even included a little treat bucket at the top! 🍭
One thing they never tell you when you’re in your credentialing program: Scheduling is actually one of the HARDEST parts about being a special education teacher. Especially when you’re working with 6 different grade levels.
If you’ve been following this page since August, you know I had a three-bin system for one of my little ones who needed to work independently until I was freed up to work with him.
Well, looks like we’re gonna need to expand that system a little bit.
During a one-hour block in the morning, I will have six different kids in our room which doesn’t SOUND like a lot. But two of them are supposed to be receiving reading interventions for 60 mins at an end-of-2nd/3rd grade level. Two of them are supposed to receive math interventions for 60 mins working on things like counting and one-to-one correspondence. One of them is supposed to be working on blending CVC words. And one of them is supposed to be working on identifying letter sounds. SO many different needs and also they’re kids who need constant redirection and prompting and all the support.
We’ll see how this goes tomorrow. If I can just set them up to follow their schedule independently and do these independent tasks, I can actually TEACH the kids.
I feel like these first two months have been devoted to setting up systems and structure in our classroom. (And changing our schedule every other day). I’m crossing my fingers that they pick this up quickly and are successful at it so I can actually provide meaningful instruction.
Please send me all the good wishes. And coffee. And maybe some wine. 🙏🏽

I love learning & growing with this amazing FIT FAM! They push me to be my best & go for those HUGE GOALS that are set for my bizzz🧡 do you need a inspirational & motivating group of ladies to PUSH YOU to be your BEST SELF?
I am the worst at remembering to post things during the school year. I take pictures and never get around to actually posting them. 🙈 Sorry - I’ll try to do better.
Today’s super late later-gram is from our spy day last month as we wrapped our operations & algebra unit. Students had 4 challenges to pass to successfully complete their mission. They started with an independent task on function tables, moved to a partner challenge with order of operations, then joined another pair for a group variables challenge and ended with a double-group challenge solving equations to finish the mission. They loved moving up through the ranks and becoming special agents once they uncovered the true identities of the variables. 🕵️♀️ .
The best part? It was mostly practice stations and activities I would have used anyway, but when you put a theme with it, add some music & lighting, special “agent” badges (ambience ideas courtesy of @elementaryshenanigans
) and “missions” instead of “work,” it leaves an impact and they are hooked! .
What are some of your favorite lessons, themes, or other ways that you engage your kiddos?
I think dude wants to go to our leadership retreat with us. Sorry buddy, but you get to go to grandma and grandpas! I get so sad leaving this guy. What am I gonna do someday when I have kids??😭 thankful for family and friends around who can watch him! It’s little things like that as to why we moved home and my heart is so grateful.

We have had so much fun learning about pumpkins, their life cycle, and building with pumpkin candy corn this week. One of my littles said, “Science is the best!” #meltmyheart
One day a week, I push into a colleague’s classroom to support their 3rd/4th grade kiddos for #mindfulnessineducation
Me: “Last week we practiced mindful breathing. Did anyone try this after over the past week?” The above quote is just one of the powerful answers received by the beautiful elementary souls...✨
