Your boyee T-Dog turns the big 1-2 today. 💕🎂🎉 As you may recall from personal experience, the dominant characteristic of being 12 is knowing absolutely everything about absolutely everything. (This is, of course, shattered at age 27, when you realize you actually know nothing.) The year included: zip-lining at Belmont Park; serving as a Japanese immersion summer camp leader with a legit whistle, which I nearly pulverized for the number of times he randomly phweeeted it unexpectedly in the house; and earnest piano practice between that sweet, sweet baseball/basketball fly-ness.
As for real talk, the year also included less pitching in a new, highly competitive baseball season, and reconciling how to keep that beloved goal in sight *and* give it all in new assignments at third, short and right field.
And he got a referral; the very first phone call we've ever had from any caregiver or teacher since he was seven months old at daycare. His offense: Speaking up last spring in a chaotic classroom situation on behalf of a classmate being disciplined for behavior another student had been getting away with all year (behavior that was likely the root of the chaos). We disapproved the disruption, but respected his sense of justice and loyalty.
He needs to cook and clean more, and work a little harder in the yard. But there are a blessed many tasks he tends to without reminder; I just have to pay through the nose in access to some unbearably idiotic YouTube screen time and sometimes dance along to his savage Fortnite dance moves.
