Báilame como si fuera la última vez 💃🏽 #TAKITAKI
If I had a dollar for everytime someone has told me to quit dancing, asked me why I dance, or made a face at the fact that my hobby and passion is “dancing”, I think I’d be a millionaire 😂. When I wrote bio’s for the “about myself” section for work, I was asked to alter it to say “taught dance classes” instead of dancing, because “dancing” is looked down upon. At family events I’m always asked to choreograph and dance, but when I’m “dancing” at events or friends weddings it’s looked down upon. WHO created this stigma that “dancing” is “bad”?!?! •
Hobbies and passions are things that make people happy, so why is it that dancing is not considered legitimate or “appropriate”? Until moving to NYC, I hadn’t taken a challenging dance class in a while. I choreographed routines myself and shot them on camera for my YouTube channel, where I can take 6 takes if I needed to. I forgot how much went into thinking, coordinating, maintaining stamina and performing all in one shot right away. But, I had also forgotten how rewarding it is. I walked into this class as @tanya_thanawa
started teaching and I was like “man I can’t keep up”... Undoubtedly, I started questioning myself. Am I foolish for wanting to continue this? Can I keep up with movement still? What if I’m not “good” anymore? What if I’m not in shape for this anymore? •
Dance class was always inspiring to me as a little girl because I would put in my 100% in class and walk out feeling good about myself. Not cause I nailed the routine, not cause people told me “I did so good”, but because I knew how much work I put into TRYING my best. And no one can ever take that joy of knowing how hard you worked 💪🏽. Here’s to all the ladies out their killing their passions while working, maintaining families, and not giving a crap about what society has to say about it 🙌🏽.
