Day 20: where are you from?
I’m a boomerang yinzer. I grew up in Pittsburgh and couldn’t wait to leave. My whole family lives here, and at least one part of the family came directly to Pittsburgh in 1887.
I left, went to uni, moved to the UK, and came back. Then left again. Then I finally realized that everything I love and care about is here, that this city has everything a girl could ask for, without being so enormous that it swallows you up. So I came home, bought a home, and stayed.
This place is so delightfully weird. Jumping in a river when it’s -5 outside on New Years Day. French fries on salad (don’t knock it til you tried it). Steps that are streets. A distinct language and vernacular. Weirdly intertwined (seriously, you know someone who knows someone, literally all the time). But it’s also affordable (mostly) to live here. We get all four seasons. We have the outdoors and the city. Lots of fantastic doctors, arts, and tech. And! We have our own @typeonerun
chapter and @t1yinzers
It’s a great place to live, and I’m glad to be here now. 🖤💛🖤💛🖤 #yinzers #diabetesawarenessmonth #ndam #t1d #t1yinzers
