When I used to hear the term “human trafficking” I automatically thought it was something that mostly happened overseas…not in Canada. Last year, I saw a news story on @citynewstoronto
regarding young girls, right here in Toronto, that were being forced into prostitution after getting into unhealthy relationships. This exploitation was happening frequently in my city, at hotels all around #the6ix
. I couldn’t believe how easy it was for men and in some cases boys, to manipulate our young girls so easily. Some as young as my daughter…ten. And it wasn’t just young girls, but young boys too that were being forced into sexual slavery. We need to help our young people build self-esteem, teach them that their bodies belong to them and we can help them gain their freedom back.
This is why I walk. Join us on September 22nd in support of @free_them_
