It is that time of the year again, that bittersweet moment of bidding Maa Durga farewell for the year and looking forward to her arrival in the new year to come. Maa Durga, the epitome of feminine grace and elegance combined with her strength, representing Naari Shakti, has been worshipped throughout the years. Naari Shakti or women strength, the collective power of all women together, a strong force that once again reminds us that truth wins over lies, everytime. Maa Durga too, with her signature color of strength, red had defeated the evil Mahisashura and brought peace and harmony in the three tiers of the world. Red is one such color, that is divine and perfect for almost all situations. It has its own glory and demeanor and gives a feeling of being unbroken and undefeated. It is tradition amongst Indian women, to use the color red at its utmost in holy places. Red sindoor or crimson powder, red aalta or the mosturizing red liquid used by women round their feet to keep them soft and free off dry skin, a white and red bordered saree, conch shell and red coral bangles and a last finishing touch with a red bindi. This is a traditional look sported by women on both Ashtami morning and Dashami day. It is a ritual, to wear red and white on Dashami, arrange a silver or any metal plate with paan or bettle leaves, sindoor, aalta, sweets and a little bit of earth. These are taken to the Durga idol and she is bid farewell in a style in which a newly wed bride is bidden farewell by her mother. Women also have this tradition called Sindoor Khela, where they play with sindoor, just like in Holi. The myriad of red shades with hints of white and gold, make it a stunning view to watch. Cheeks covered in red beauty with a few blushing ones of the newly wed are a treat to the eyes.
