So today is normally a rest day BUTTTT David and I are heading home to see family this weekend and we didn’t want to have to worry about getting our workout in on Friday SO we just switched our rest days! 🙌🏼💃🏻🕺🏼 Hollllllaaaaaa ! Which means we’ll have Friday through Sunday off! #booyah
but god you guys i love the freedom 🕊 this program gives us but I’m actually missing that rest day today 😅 which is something I never thought I would say! But I also don’t think i would be surviving this week without my workouts! I am beyond mentally and physically exhausted and honestly think i would have cracked if it wasn’t for me filling my own cup every morning! ❤️ I use to think that exercise was purely physical benefits but oh my gosh I was so beyond wrong 💁🏻♀️ My sanity and my mindset NEED these workouts, I need this ME time since I spend most of my days giving to others! And I’ve learned I can’t pour from an empty cup .. it’s impossible! 🙈 So putting yourself first is NOT at all selfish, in fact it’s completely 💯 necessary!
I’m sitting here thinking wow, I really don’t feel like working out tonight. I know I took my sunshine ☀️ juice and all but I can just do something else.
Seriously the excuses are flowing out
I worked all day
Work was crazy I don’t feel like it
I really just need to relax for a second but I won’t want to get back up.
I still need to make dinner
Yeah I’ve been there, I still make excuses. We’re human! But it’s really easy to counter that excuse with...well the workout is only 30 minutes. Then I have the rest of the evening to get whatever I need done. In that 30 minutes I could’ve sat down to rest before starting my evening. But that wouldn’t get me the results I want and need!
So let me end with this question for you. What’s holding you back?!
There are days that I struggle to get out of bed. There are days that I just absolutely do not want to workout 🙅♀️
I have weeks that just drag on & I feel unmotivated, tired and just want to curl up in my bed forever (my fav place). It happens guys 🤷🏼♀️ we’re all human.
But when I feel like this I look back on how far I’ve come. I look back at how my smile has changed, because I have changed.
I am a better person since finding Beachbody.
I may have lost 30 pounds, but the person I have found through this is worth everything.
I took a chance on bettering my life. On putting myself before everyone else for once. And lemme tell you, it was the best decision I have ever made.
Don’t you want to look in the mirror & not recognize the person staring back at you cause they’re smiling too damn hard?! Stop putting yourself on the back burner. “Do something today that your future self will thank you for.” Trust me, you’ll be saying thank you 👊

Scheduled REST Day!!! Do you take those??? I used to go go go!! ALL THE TIME!! Until I would crash!
I have learned that you if you don’t take time to slow down your body will force you to.
And it’s not always in a pleasant way.
It’s often a pull, strain, tear or more serious injury.
Your body NEEDS rest days to recover so it can come back STRONGER.
So today, I slept in!! Gave my body some extra time to repair while I slept.
Then I got up and did a little meditation.
I will tell you, that is not my jam!!! It’s hard for me to stay still and quiet my mind.
I guess it’s called a practice for a reason.
Then I did some simple stretching.
Just something to stretch out my body from the past two days and get the blood flowing.
Because that actually helps your muscles repair quicker too.
Don’t be afraid to take a rest day and just SLOW DOWN!!! I’d love to hear what you do for your rest days!!!

I have been honest about the fitness funk I have found myself in recently. I have been doing powerlifting for about 2 years and I just need a change. I want some community. I want to be challenged in new ways. I want to be excited about my workouts.
I resisted CrossFit for a long time. I had all sorts of excuses:
🏋🏻♀️I have a gym in my backyard - it doesn’t make sense to drive to a box.
💘I train with my husband and it’s a fun hobby to do together. Going to crossfit means we will workout separately.
⏱The only time that works is early and I am NOT a huge fan of waking up early. This girl needs her sleep.
👶🏼I can workout in my home gym whenever I want and not have to worry about childcare - going to crossfit I have to work around my husband and kids’ schedules.
But you know what they say about excuses...If it’s important, you will find a way. If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse.
So I pushed those excuses to the side and decided to GO FOR IT. Luckily I have these two babes by my side patiently encouraging me to take a leap of faith and dive into a new world. @butteryourmacros

After doing 80 Day Obsession, I didn’t think any other program would be able to top it. I mean hello it got me in the BEST shape of my life 🙌 BUT being 6 days a week, hour long workouts and a strict meal plan, it wasn’t exactly SUSTAINABLE.
This NEW program being only 4 days a week, 30 minute workouts and not as strict of a meal plan it’s so much more REALISTIC. It has allowed me to have time to squeeze in my runs AND be able to enjoy my weekends with my family and friends 🤗
Although I may not be a lean as I was after 80 Day Obsession (cause it’s summertime and I’m gonna enjoy some BBQ 🍔 and beverages 🍷), I’m the STRONGEST I’ve EVER been 💪 I’m seeing muscles I’ve never even seen before!!! I’ll take strong over skinny any day 😉
Deadlifts from the other day. Did 3x8 at 315 with each set broken into cluster sets of 2x4. Cluster sets (doing a set, short rest, finishing set) allows you to achieve more volume than if I had done a traditional 3x8 setup. This is stuff @broomell.strengthproject
taught me, I highly recommend him for coaching regardless of your goals. I’m still working on building my strength back but it feels good when your body falls back into proper form. My last PR was 515 In I think November, by the end of this year I want to pass that, time will tell. Feels good to be back to training. Seriously though, I have more energy waking up at 5am, pressing play on my workout, getting my 13 mth old fed, ready, and out the door with the hubby by 7am, making it to the hospital by 8am and working all day, cooking dinner, playtime, walking the dog, and Coopers bath, laundry, working this biz, reading PD, and bed by 10pm, than I EVER did when I got up, went to work, came home with takeout or made something quick and easy, and still was in bed by 10pm!
We are ALL busy AF, but I 💯 % feel better now than I ever have because I take 1 hour (TOPS) out of my day to better my heath and focus on myself!

PROPS TO OUR PROPS: THE STRETCHING STRAP .
We are all unique, and the stretching strap was designed with that in mind. The material (high quality canvas) and the construction (double looped), make it a useful stretching tool for students with varying degrees of flexibility. If you have tight hamstrings, hold onto the lower loops to let out the slack of the straps. If you are more flexible, hold onto the upper loops to pull the strap tighter and get a deeper stretch. No matter what your range of flexibility is, the stretching strap will help you find your graceful strength! Enjoy the process and love the results!

A myth about coaching: time and experience are the only thing that makes you a “good” coach. If you’ve been in the game for 20 years, it doesn’t make you any better/worse than someone who’s been in the industry for 2 years. What are some qualities that I think make great coaches?!
*a willingness to research, expand your knowledge, and be willing to try new things. Sickness and disease are evolving. We should be evolving our methods to combat that as well.
*empathy and tough love. Coaching requires you to exude BOTH on a very regular basis. But it’s important to be able to assess the situation and be able to provide that ear to listen to the issues and struggles their clients are having+ provide solutions (even if it’s something they don’t want to hear) to help them reach their ultimate goals.
*knowledge. Anyone can be a cheerleader and provide a support system. But effective coaches are able to dig in and ask the hard questions to help them get to the root of the problem.

Sometimes you need a little me time. Whether it’s just sitting down and relaxing, sleeping in, watching tv or reading a book. Whatever you need to do to relax. Today it was so nice to sit outside in the sun this morning reading a book that I’ve been meaning to finish! Its feels amazing to just sit down for a moment and take a deep breath in and exhale all the stress from the last few days!

Like suck it in and pray that button didn’t snap at the most inopportune time 🙏🏼 Literally a cup of coffee a day can melt off that mid-section (stubborn) “extras” that come with three precious babies + stress eating 🙌🏼 AND builds up lean muscle in its place 👊🏼 #revitalu #irevitalu
You’ll notice that each of these pics has something in common—the kitchen! I totally agree with the phrase that “abs are made in the kitchen” in that if you have a layer of fat covering them, you’ll never see them no matter how many hours you spend in the gym. BUT, that isn’t to say exercise is futile when it comes to abs. Proper nutrition can get your body fat percentage down, but lifting weights can really help sculpt and define those abs 💪🏻 Of course genetics play a role as well!
Also, I weigh a few lbs more on the right, so I’ll take this opportunity to again say #screwthescale

As a Black woman, growing up I never made sense
As a fit chick, my other hobbies make no sense
As a mother, my parenting choices definitely makes no sense to my children.. lol
As a corporate woman, my entrepreneurship makes no sense and vice versa
As plant based eater, my obsession with hot links and fried chicken makes no sense
As a soda hater, my love for beer makes no sense
As a Bay Area native, my fascination with the south makes no sense
OMG...and the list goes on and on. And I know I’m not the only one with these incongruences that “don’t make sense”. And because we are all this way, I would say we all make sense..... as a matter of fact, who is this person sitting back and judging what DOES make sense?
I digress. The moral of the story? You make PERFECT sense. Just be happy!

I remember thinking nutrition was hard. Like I would never get this whole healthy eating thing down. I thought it had to be all or nothing.
I either had to give up everything I loved (aka donuts 🍩) or I just shouldn’t even try. 🙈 I mean growing up as a gymnast 🤸🏻♀️where I was basically always moving, I literally could eat WHATEVER I wanted. Like I use to eat half a can of salt and vinegar pringles at lunch every single day.
That’s just how I rolled. 💁🏻♀️
Then I graduated high school and wasn’t doing gymnastics anymore. I wasn’t completely inactive, i mean had to walk to class 🙃 but those eating habits stayed the same .. like me and veggies were enemies at this point AND I honestly hated the idea of diets so I never even tried.
Now I’m going to say I gained 30+ pounds or anything like that because that’s not my story. I actually LOST weight my freshman year .. yeah. That happened. For me though, food always felt like something that was out of my control. Like it was something I was never going to master and was always going to feel inadequate in.
Because I never knew there could be a happy medium. I never knew i could have my cake and eat it too (because YES you can and if you hear otherwise, they are lying 😂)
Now I know different. Now I know that life is all about BALANCE! ✌🏼It’s not about depriving yourself because we alllll know what happens when we tell ourselves we can’t have something .. our craving for THAT specific thing increases 10000X !
Becoming the BEST you, physically, mentally, and everything in between isn’t supposed to make you miserable, it’s about finding out what works best for YOU because we’re all different. So find something that gets you the results AND still allows you to enjoy the shit out of your life! 💃🏻🙌🏼🤗
So sometimes I choose the donut because life without them would be unimaginable and other times I choose my healthy chocolate mug cake (which I’ll share later btw 😉) .. but I now know that it doesn’t have to be one or the other and THAT is the most freeing feeling ever. 🕊❤️
