I’ve been to see a chiropractor this morning about my foot. Although the fracture has healed , I’ve still been having a bit of pain and aching which is preventing me from increasing my distances and is really frustrating. This is because one of the joints in my foot (the cuneiform joint) is very tight and is restricting the movement through my foot. The chiropractor was lovely and does running herself which is good as she understands what I’m doing. She massaged my feet and then cracked them a bit to loosen them off so hopefully I won’t get as much pain now. Fingers crossed 🤞 Now I’m off bowling and shopping with my friends so that will be fun. Hope everyone is having a happy Monday 👍😘 #youngrunner #runninginjuries #stressfracture #arunnerslife #teenathlete #sportsinjuryrehab #ameliaruns #myrunningjourney
Day 8: Food!! I’m grateful for good food and the ability to have access to it so easily!! Learning more about my Kenyan friends has helped me appreciate things like the blessing to have access to all the food I’ve needed to fuel my body.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love CHEESECAKE and FROZEN YOGURT with goody toppings and family PIZZA NIGHT just as much as anyone, but I’m so grateful to also have access to the healthy food needed for me to fuel my long runs and recover my body after injury.
I’m grateful to all those who work tirelessly and relentlessly to bring such an abundance of nutrition to my table. ❤️
Thank you @speedsherpa
for being my #swim
buddy today! Made such a big difference to have a friend and teammate by my side while lit’rally dipping my toes back in. 800yds comprised of alotta 25s and 50s, and one 200 that Melissa insisted on. Baby steps so all done with a pull buoy and no wall pushing-slow and unsteady but grateful to do it. If I can maintain this swim-gratitude as I get stronger that’ll be a huge win.
A few years ago I built a trailer for carrying 8 x 4 sheets and it’s been amazingly useful. Over the last few weeks it’s done a lot of miles with a lot more load than it was ever designed for, and it’s been great. I thought it would be worth checking it over to make sure it’s handled the work, and discovered this crack running all the way through one of the main rails. It’s a bit of a design flaw where the drawbar welds on and will always be prone to a stress fracture. The plan is to beef this up with a bit of box section. #trailer #stressfracture
Ups and downs! Yesterday was a hard day, a bad day. I was really sore from PT on Thursday and struggling with whether it was all good pain or bad pain and by the evening I had quite convinced myself it was the latter. I spiraled so far that while loading the dishwasher before bed I somehow found myself sitting on the kitchen floor crying. I was sure I’d re-broken my hip and that I was going back on the crutches. I felt a thousand times better today-no pain. Planned to try a #swim
but the pool was closed so decided to give the #bike
a spin. Just putting these shorts on was emotional and I cried fat happy tears driving over to @offroaddc
to ride. All the things I’ve taken for granted before seem like overwhelming gifts now. Bff @claricelorenzini
warned me the waterworks would continue and she wasn’t wrong. Got 15 glorious minutes in the saddle with no resistance and no standing so mostly just learning to move my legs that way again - basically I cried more than I sweat today but it’s a start!
Woohoo, it’s the weekend! ☀️Long runs are NOT happening yet, 😂 but that doesn’t mean I can’t get a solid workout in the pool! It’s big bonus that I was able to swim outdoors in the sunshine after the crazy storms we’ve been having. 🙌3000 yards with sprint intervals at the end, which I accidentally split up on my watch, 🤦♀️but hey, it’s new, I’m getting used to it!
Aaaand speaking of that new watch, I’m excited to share that I am officially part of the @suunto
squad!!! I bought my first Spartan Sport for swimming almost two years ago (the last time I was injured 🤕), and have been a fan ever since, for both land and water sports. So far, I love the Suunto 9 I’m wearing even more! 😍
Now it’s time to enjoy some kid-free time with my man! ❤️ Hope you all have an awesome weekend! 😘. #suuntosquad #suunto #swim #swimming #injuredrunner #swimmersofig #runnergirl #crosstraining #stressfracture #cardio #fitness #swimmersofinstagram #runnernotrunning #tifosi #tifosioptics #comebackcomingsoon #marathoner #chicagomarathon #roadtochicago #ambassador
Broken bones add another reality wake up call for me. With EOE I really struggle to get the right foods in and after another night of losing my food and getting a lecture about “fighting against my personal food reality” I’m sitting here knowing what I need to do but fighting against my want of solid food. Now I have to say it to myself “BUCKLE UP BUTTERCUP AND GET OVER YOUR SELF!!!!” Time to start evening prepping and getting my liquids on!
That moment when your workout makes your room so warm that it fogs up your window. 😳
Proved to myself this morning that despite a stress fracture in my hip, I can still get a good workout in (S/O to my parents @jmcdonaldgray
who lent me their stationary bike, which helps). Here’s how it went:
1. HIIT workout on the stationary bike, courtesy of Pinterest.
2. Kayla Itsines’ BBG-style workout with 7 min intervals of kayla_itsines BBG 1 Week 1 arms & abs (with the ab rounds replaced by @samirosefitness
- my new fave ab workout).
3. Cool down doing seated “rowing” with a band and easy biking. 🚣🏻♀️ Done. Everything was non-weight bearing on my hip (AKA Dr.-approved). 🔥

JUST RUN. Sometimes you don’t feel like running but your body surprises you. Both @mikat82
& I had colds and niggly shins. But the Park Run whistle blew and we were off! Hello 2019 5k PB 👋🏼. Finally seeing some progress. Often the body is stronger than the mind. Bring on getting this bloody stress fracture out the way which flared up this week. Who knew it would have taken nearly 8 months to heal 🤷♀️! I’ve been following Physio guidance to the tee apart from I’ve realised I should be doing flexibility daily- we all should according to the Uk Physical Activity Guidelines who would have known whoops. Hoping it will behave & I can get into some faster training soon. #parkRunfun #running #buddies #bettertogether #stressfracture #healing #ukrunchat #instarunners #brockwellpark #run #newbalancerunclub #nbrc #newbalance1500s
Sooo... I did this thing... it’s not the first time but I got a follow up call from the doc. I have hairline/stress fractures in two spots (we originally thought only one) on the outer side of my foot and he gave me the boot. 🤣 Don’t think this will slow me down or anything! There are plenty of workouts that can be done even with the boot!
Silly irritant but the @garmin
doesn’t register the crutching motion as “steps” so since December my watch has been sitting at 0 day after day and my daily suggested step goal has declined from 20,000ish to 4000. The past two weeks I’ve started to log a little but of walking and yesterday is the first time in 2019 I surpassed my daily goal. I know this journey is gonna be all about teenytiny victories, so marking this in the win column. Hey @j2pointo
, can I get a @trainingpeaks
green box? ✅
Stress fracture, plantar fasciitis, and wear and tear on my big toe. When the doctor told me my diagnosis, I literally laughed, and said “that wasn’t what I was expecting!” I was also running a fever of 99.9 degrees F, so I was a little off already. I’m in the boot for 4 weeks with the promise of no weight bearing on the foot, otherwise I need a scooter. Back in 4 weeks, and most likely boot for 4 more. If I push it, the bone could break, and we’re looking at surgery.
I asked about biking with the boot on? He laughed at me and said “no.” So, complete upper body lifting for 4 weeks, and trying NOT to go nuts.

What is a stress fracture? A stress reaction? A stress injury? These injuries compromise a spectrum of bony injuries that are the bones way of telling us, “This is more than I can handle” all the way to “Now I’ve reached my tipping point of stress and I’m cracking!” Stress fractures are caused by overuse and repetitive activity. Unlike breaking a bone after trauma, stress fractures develop slowly over time. The initial weakening of the bone is called a stress reaction, which can develop into a stress fracture if repetitive loading continues. If diagnosed early, we can get our athletes back to running and sport so much faster! #stressfracture #sportsmedicine #bonehealth #stressinjury
Aaaaaaahhhhh!! Tears turned happy today! I had my first PT session this afternoon and I was so afraid she would tell me I needed another MRI before moving forward with rehab or that I still had weeks of just practicing my walking before moving on to any working out. Instead she read through the pain diary I’ve been keeping and said everything looks good AND THAT I CAN START SWIMMING AND BIKING AGAIN!! After moooooonths of being told no nothing, sit and crutch and wait, my PT was enthusiastic about moving full steam ahead and even put @ironmantri
Lake Placid back on the table. I cried, but unlike ten weeks ago it was out of relief and this overwhelming feeling like I might be getting my life back. (She was so nice about the waterworks and said I’m not the first to cry there either.😂😭) There’s a TON of work ahead - right now still relearning how to walk heel-to-toe - but I’m so ready. Just having PT exercises assigned and a path forward that includes activity is everything right now. .
Also taught actual #bootCAMP

must have been good badass lady luck!
Ok last round of these but I found a second sheet of 15 year old headshots in my music binder and they’re even more ridic than the first sheet. Please scroll through for the proof I was apparently going to submit to softcore cattle calls. Not appropriate, photographer! But I was looking at these bc finally performed in my musical theatre class last night and it was so fun! My voice has turned to pitchy garbage but it was a blast. I was so scared opening my mouth and felt accomplished that I overcame it. Trying to channel @kelseyabbottcpc
and see dipping my toe back into music as a “gift” of this whole painful experience.

DID I BREAK MY ANKLE?!?!? If you've been keeping up to date with my posts, you may have seen that I was going to the sports medicine doctor today... Now I'm wearing a boot for a few weeks.
I was having a bit of pain in my ankle last week, but still ran through my 9 mile run (as most runners do, run through the pain). It didn't seem to get better, so I opted for the stationary bike this past week.
Still no better so I went and saw a professional and was told I had a stress fracture in my right talus bone.
The talus bone is the lower part of the ankle joint. It connects the with the tibia and fibula to form the joint. The talus allows your bodyweight to be supported by the foot. It also connects to the calcaneus (heel). This bone is crucial for mobility. Its the reason we can flex and extend the ankle (dorsi flexion and plantar flexion).

Ladies and gentlemen, the effect injury has on your fitness is much more dramatic that you could possibly believe.
My (very unreliable) Garmin based vo2 max has dropped 7 points, from 52 to 45 since November.
Today I ran 1.7 miles. This was a bad idea, but after so many hours in the car recently, I needed to do something to loosen off my back. I'm glad I did, and I'm glad I haven't had my clinic appointment yet as I may have given them more to see after that short run 😂
It felt great to be out running, and the hoka clifton are super soft, genuinely good shoe for long slow runs, and the meta rocker was not overly noticeable, but now, we go back to "resting" 💩
