Freedom through struggle: Be a Deer. . It's a common misconception that in trauma, or post-stress, the 'best thing' we can do is 'relax' & unwind that which has got tangled, blocked or totally terrified. Maybe, at times, this is possible & desirable, but at other times we need to work at a deeper level into our muscles in order to achieve this stillness. . Here, we willingly induce embodied challenge in order to process that which has been written onto our bodies through life's journey, to access the medicinal power of a) The Shake, b) softening in struggle, c) Flow State. . Lets take a) The Shake, with more on the rest later. As adults, we become socialised out of our ability for deep muscular shakes, & tend to contract around fear, & so, hold it in place. Picture a deer being chased: the deer automatically operates out of fight or flight, fleeing to escape attack. If the escape is successful, the deer lies on the ground & convulses & shakes, before getting up & cracking on with its day. The deer processes the fear & stress, in the moment, in a deep embodied way, so that it may continue with its life, free from the effects of the #trauma . . Accessing this #medicine of deer is therefore one of the many purposes of a 'yang', muscular yoga practice. To seek deep within for the hard parts, the contractile parts & shake, shake them out, finding #freedom through struggle. This medicine doesn't always taste good, but we endeavour in the #yang elements of our classes to create a space in which you can safely encounter your natural ability 'to shake'. We all need it. . Trauma and struggle were some of the life threads that bought Dan and Chloe to #yoga , and so we regularly practice our shake mechanism! STRESS. What is it? And how much is it messing with your ability to function? . Chances are it is causing you some trouble. . My belief is we are not designed to be put in this fight or flight state for years on end- our bodies simply can not handle it on so many levels. . I want you to be aware of what your stress might be doing to you- - Insomnia, this sneaky little symptom that pops up when you feel absolutely desperate for a good nights sleep. Poor stress balancing will lead to heightened cortisol when we are trying to get some sleep promoting restlessness, busy mind and at times hot flushes. . - Low Progesterone, our natural calming hormone will naturally drop if we are under too much stress. This leads to PMS, anxiety, poor sleep, weight gain and bloating. . - Poor digestion, the body is very clever at drawing energy away from the digestive tract towards more important things when stressed. Therefore you are more likely to experience bloating, indigestion, gas and constipation. These factors then go on and cause further havoc with your hormones. . På något sätt så tror jag att det är det som är en del av livet, att tillåta, leva och känna. Vara i det som är. . Men det är nästan som att vi är så upptagna med att kolla på skärmar, jaga oss själva hit och dit istället för att tillåtande låta allt få vara som det är och utgå därifrån. Om du är sen till jobbet så kommer du inte komma mer i tid för att du stressar. Snarare kanske du tappar något på vägen som gör att du förlorar tid. There will never be a right time! . We are always waiting for the right time to take a big decision, right time to move jobs, right time to invest in a business, right time to take a vacation, right time to tell someone you like them, and a lot more. Our list of tasks that depends on right time never ends. But, why is that so? What exactly is the right time, and why do we wait for it? . Just like everyone else out there, I have also been the victim of this thinking where I procrastinate and justify myself by saying that it isn’t the right time. So, when will the right time be? If it isn’t right now, it never will be. You lose purpose when you stall yourself and your decisions by giving into this obsession of the right time. How exactly do you know it is the right time? Don’t bullshit yourself and me by saying you just know when the time is right. While that might be right, it is only your heart and brain that collaborate to tell you now is the time to take that step. But that all can be done a little sooner. . Best things happen when you don’t wait for your time, instead create it. Your risks turn into fruition when instead of thinking what will happen next, you just do it. You get the dream job, the person you love, go on your dream vacation and so on, when instead of telling yourself there will come a day when you’ll do it, you actually do it. . Don’t kill yourself in this race of finding the right time or perfect moment. Hustle to create one, right here and right now.
