*The Heart Stealer*
She was a little scared. The news of The Heart Stealer, the horrific murderer, was doing rounds and her fear was stemming from those horrid images in the newspaper. Police was issuing warnings and asking everyone to be responsible with whom they meet.
She was being reckless though. After a long bout of solitude, she felt a ray of hope. Yes, she was meeting a stranger for a blind date. But she knew him, just hadn't met him. Internet was a boon. Surely, she couldn’t call him a stranger!
She reached the restaurant sooner than she thought and saw him sitting in the designated seat. He looked dignified, regal. The black suit did justice to him. And his sleek body was an added bonus. He saw her staring and stood to greet her.
Ah, a gentleman to boot! But that glint in his eyes, it gave him a dangerous edge. She shook off the feeling. It was her lucky night, after all. It had to be. She had nothing to fear!
She set her purse on the table as he pulled the chair for her to sit. They ordered the best of wines and the most appetizing dishes. Conversation flew as if they had known each other for ages. They knew each other indeed.
As he drove over to her house to drop her after the dinner, she was excited and nervous at the same time. She kept stealing glances at him, only to find him staring dead ahead. Expressionless.
Did she make a mistake?
No, she didn't.
Just then, the car stopped and he looked at her. She saw that edgy glint back in his eyes. Her hands tightened over her purse. ~Next day~ "Breaking news: The Heart Stealer strikes again. The body of an unidentified male in a black suit was found in a car. His heart was carved out and stolen." ~ Mamta Kashyap Kachroo
