METAL ARTISANS OF ALL TYPES, WE NEED YOU. Myself and a few other sheetmetal shapers are trying to put together a meet for this spring in Oblong, Illinois. We have lots of sheet metal people interested, but we're trying to find other metal forming techniques to add to the mix. We need some blacksmiths, jewellers, metalsmiths, and if there's any traditional tinsmiths out there, that would be great too. We're looking for all types of metal forming.....hot, cold, whatever. Forging, chasing, repousse, hydroforming, and casting if we can find it.
This is mainly an event for the metal people attending. Similar to a hammer-in or conference.....It's a get-together for the artisans themselves. A time to hang out and make stuff. Time to get to know each other and share knowledge. There will be some demos and such, as well.
Oblong has been really good to all of us at Metal Meet the last decade. So we want to give back to them. So we're also considering opening it up to the public so they can come see the processes. At least on a spectator level. The annual Metal Meet every October is an international event with a lot of draw. We're hoping to do something similar for the spring....before it gets too hot in southern illinois.
Anyone interested in joining? ALL LEVELS of expertise are welcome. And if you just want to attend and not work on a project or demo, that's fine too. Each year at Metal Meet, some people don't make anything the entire event....they just spend 3 days watching others, asking questions, and learning. Which is completely acceptable.
We're aiming for one of the last 2 weeks in April.
Like most conferences, there will most likely be a fee for the attendees. This covers our expenses and some materials for the event. However, if it's like the fall meet, it won't be too expensive. Please contact me with any questions or to express interest.
