I think this will be me for the day, new school year cold has hit me (yet I'm not actually the one in school 🙈🤧) with my cold busting drink - hot lemonade, honey, lemon slice, pinch of ginger and I've added in a drop of On Guard essential oil. Re-watching Atypical too, I stopped after the first few episodes as it just seemed a bit painful at times to get a glimpse of what our future may be like. Now I can see all the positives to our quirky life 🧡

#Repost @disneyparksmadeeasy ・・・ Families visiting Disney Parks can visit the Guest Relations center located near the front of each park to request a “wheelchair tag” for a stroller being used by a child with special needs. This allows you to use your existing stroller in the same capacity you would use a wheelchair- taking it into ride queues, onto the monorail, the trams, etc... Having their own stroller with them at all times allows young ones with special needs to take rest breaks and gives a little bit of shelter from some of the overwhelming sensory displays. 👍🏻 Sometimes people request these tags for able-bodied or neurotypical children, but we’ve found that the wheelchair tag is genuinely most helpful for those who actually have some type of assistance needs. This is great for many ASD children who like to have a physical buffer that prevents people from touching them and from children with medical conditions that cause easy fatiguing. Definitely more convenient than renting a wheelchair if you don’t already travel with one. #disneyland #disneyworld #specialneedstravel #disneyparks #disneyresorts #disneyvacation #disneyguide #disneylife #disneytips #disneytricks #dlrtipoftheday #wdwtipoftheday #specialneedsparenting #specialneeds #specialneedsfamily #spectrum #sensoryprocessingdisorder #downsyndrome #downsyndromeawareness #autismmom #autismawareness #wheelchair #stroller #specialneedsmom #childhoodcancer #makeawishfoundation
Just because a person may go to university and get themselves a fancy degree, or have a super high powered job with a slick suit and flash car, does not make them more qualified to teach and inspire people than someone with a disability. People are often very quick to judge a book by its cover and never get to know the person behind the diagnosis. But I have had the pleasure through this little app we call ‘Instagram’ to meet these inspiring people, some of whom have Olympic medals or run their own company. But most of all these people know how to really love without judgement. They’re truly amazing and inspiring people who despite their condition overcome it and achieve, they are not disabled but in fact very much able #iamable

Ahhh....2nd grade curriculum night. Done this, been here before. Yet, this takes the cake. There on the classroom wall “self-portrait” drawings our kids have done. Teacher runs over to me and explains Mia had won a prize from the “treasure box”, which happened to be a pirate eye patch...before teacher could intervene , Mia had proudly drawn herself exactly how she was that specific day. After a super stressful day at work, this brought tears of laughter to my eyes like nothing else. I personally think she looks like a middle aged Olympian who won a silver medal...but she clarified that was a necklace, not a silver medal. Oh, and her sunflower drawing was at night with a shooting star 😳 Love this daisy-girl of mine 💞 . . . . #curriculumnight #motherhoodunplugged #2ndgrade #specialneedsmom #girlmom #iamenough #workingmom #momlife #instamom #miadaisy #childhoodunplugged
🌟What’s the opposite of anxiety?🌟 Peace, tranquility or courage are all states that come to mind, but the real vanquisher of anxiety is TRUST. I leant sometime ago that my daughter’s Pathological Demand Avoidance was better understood as a disability of trust. Once I got my head around the role as the parent to be her guide, my perspective changed, and so did our relationship change. The opposite of anxiety is not calm it is trust. #pathologicaldemandavoidance #autism #autismawareness #autismblog #senblog #specialneedsmom #specialneeds #specialneedsparenting #ig_motherhood #ig_autism #autismmom #autismmama #autismsupport #adhd #adhdawareness #disability #disabilityawareness #ukpbloggers #parentblogger #girlswithautism #writersofinstagram #trust #send #sen #anxiety #anxietydisorder #anxietyawareness #anger #angermanagement #angrychild

First major injury for little man 😢. He fell at preschool yesterday and busted his head open on the cubbies. One of the major downsides to not having any real body awareness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The doctors were able to glue instead of stitches, so that was definitely a blessing! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since I felt awful for him going through it all, he scored a strawberry milkshake. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #parenthood_moments #honestlyparents #mom_hub #wildandbravelittles #dailyparenting #runwildmychild #infinity_children #moodygram #my_magical_moments #thehonestlens #hubs_united #mom_hub #ourcandidlife #memoirsofmotherhood #autismo #spectrum_inspired #boyswillbeboys #specialneedsmom #lovethisboy #preschool #preschoollife #toughboy #sillyboy #boymom #boymomlife #boymomproblems
Today marks 5 months for this little dude and I still can’t believe how fast time is going by! He already has 2 teeth, he rolls over, he’s starting to reach and grasp for things, he’s pushing himself backwards in his walker, he loves to babble, and loves to smile at mommy! What else can I say, he completes us and brings so much joy to our family! 💙 DRC . . . . . #mom #momof4 #specialneedsmom #momlife #love #happiness #blessed #thankful #babyboy #boystuff
I have seen SO many posts recently about women not feeling confident in this ”mommy thing” because they see other moms on social media who ‘have it all together’. You only see one side on social media. In all reality, I’m a hot mess, I wear sweats almost every day, pictured is how I usually carry my children out the door(it’s harder than it looks... I sweat!). My son has CHARGE Syndrome. It has its own challenges, but I wouldn’t change him for the world. He’s 2.5 and not quite walking independently yet, he’s immuno-compromised, and he uses sign language as his main way to communicate which has been giving me some anxiety since I am learning a completely new language. My house is full of toys, unwanted clutter, my sons medical equipment, etc. It’s not all cupcakes and rainbows(Trolls reference😂) like most of the pictures I post. Mommy-hood is hard, but keep it up! Just a bit of light dinosaur painting! Swipe to the end to see our completed works. I’m working on encouraging Laurence’s mark making introducing different textures. Had a negative first today, Laurence has, for the first time, intentionally pushed over another child. I don’t know why? Frustration I guess? But told me himself what he had done as soon as he saw me at pickup. His TA handled it as I would hope but I don’t know where it has come from 😟 #art #kidsart #kidsartwork #homeschoolart #occupationaltherapy #autism #autismmom #specialneedsmom #specialneeds #momlife #mumlife #momworries
Four years ago today, our life changed forever. It was an exceptionally great Thursday after school/work, three weeks to the day after I started to date Josh. Gabe’s sister went down for a nap, which was really rare. He wanted to ride his bike, that he had just learned how to do about 6 weeks before. I sat on the porch to go through beginning of the year paperwork for school while he rode around the neighborhood. Everything was mellow and slow, and we were so content. . Then he hadn’t come back yet and had been gone a while, considering the boundaries I gave him. I tried to tell myself that he had stopped to look at rocks, or had found a pretty fall leaf that he wanted to bring home. . And then I heard the sirens. And I knew. And I ran, barefoot, down the middle of the street, where I found him, on the ground surrounded by strangers, a block and a half away. . The next days and weeks and months were a blur. No answers. Lots of run around. Trouble at school. New doctors, different tests, specialist after specialist. Nobody had answers. It took over a year before we got any direction at all. . Now here we are, a full diagnosis of autism, PTSD, and the still vague TBI. A great grip on our life from all of us, and an incredible family unit that we’ve created. A much bigger support group than what we started with, and zero unsupportive people left in our lives. A boy who has learned so many coping techniques and communication tools that he can turn a bad day around as fast as anyone else. A young man who has learned to let his guard down, some, and allow to let in some more understanding, from the outside world, of who he is. A confident almost-teenager who is blossoming into exactly who he is, and finding his identity in junior high. An A average student. A self-appointed teacher aid. A boy who is happy and OK. . I’ll never forget all of my emotions from this experience, and I’ll never forget how fortunate we were to not lose him that day. It’s been a hard road, but we’ve all become better, stronger people, and a closer family because of it. And I still have my boy.

This sweet silly boy of mine never fails to surprise me with what he does. I adore him! First, I'm just sharing this because this is something that is our real life, my life. Something that I deal with everyday behind the scenes with two children with Bardet-Biedl Syndrome. Savannah & Xanders disease is one of my battles. Everyone is fighting their own. I feel like I need to talk about it. So here it goes, a day in my life...😂. Today, I cleaned Xanders closet & found a container of granola bars that had gone missing last week. It was empty & the wrappers were all over the closet along with some fruit snack wrappers. I swear every time I leave a room or we are somewhere that has food, he's planning how to get it, sneak it, eat it, or hide it. We have to key lock our fridge and pantry. One time, a friend had him over & they had leftover pizza in their fridge. Later, after we'd left she found a piece hiding in one of their kitchen drawers. He told me he had hid it there to save for later.🤦🏼‍♀️ Xander has been hiding his lunch box at school and telling his teacher he doesn't have it so he can get school lunch then, eats his homemade lunch at home in his room when he gets a chance. I caught him last week. It's like he just can't help it. I can't watch him 24/7. It's crazy! & Savannah is doing the same. I feel horrible! Its so hard to watch your children struggle. I try to teach them to have good & healthy feelings & habits with food. This is a struggle that they will live with their whole lives, & I can only Gide them & give them tools to help them make healthy choices. One of the joys of BBS... I'm so lucky to have the most amazing & understanding friends & family that are there for us! I couldn't do it all without them! #bardetbiedlsyndrome #bbsstrong #dontjudgeothers #loveeveryone #specialneedsmom #bestrong #littlewarriors #utahmom #onedayatatime #myreasons
Hi! 🙋‍♀️ My name's Krista and I'm a #hotmessmom . After dropping off daughters 6 and 11 in my PJs and unbrushed french braid kinked hair I made my way through more public spaces and scrambled to get 14yr olds' final school supplies 2 weeks late at staples. Then I was feeling ballsy and dragged my nap deprieved 16 month old through the grocery store with my mental grocery list which ended in him screeching so loud I swear theres going to be a class action lawsuit against me for hearing loss. After that I procrastinated laundry and basic hygiene until school pick up, where I rushed down in the only clean clothes I had to pick up children 6 and 11, walk with three of them to 6's swimming lessons where I almost resorted to fisty cuffs after another mom congratulated me on being able to read after I informed her that the swim groups were posted on the posts when she asked me where they were supposed to go. I was close to telling her where to go but I had an anxious 11 year.old and a 16 month old that decided to unleash the screech for 45 solid echoing minutes in the community pool. After getting 6 changed and trying to explain to a poor 13 year old girl why my #autistic 11 year old did not stop staring at her publicly nude body while she changed I dragged all of them home and realized that said 11 year old had chugged the last of my soy sauce which happened to be one of the staple ingredients of the beautiful beef and broccoli I was planning on making. Now I'm two glasses of wine o clock deep watching little charmers trying to cling on to the moments of silence in my house currently. . Raise your hand if you've had those mommy days you just can't win! #momlifebelike #mommyneedsabreak #wineoclock
WEEKENDS... I tend to get in a rut, like doing chores and trying to catch up on things around the house and before I know it, the weekend is over. And of couse, it depends on how Ryan is feeling and Bruce getting time away from the office. 😉😏 . I love to get out and explore places, we used to go and do all of the time! Life kinda got in the way (well, I guess you could say we let it get in the way 🤷‍♀️) and we’re trying to incorporate some of that back in our routine. . With Bruce tied to the office and Ryan’s rollercoaster ride of life, we’ve definitely had to get creative. Creative in doing things at home if he’s having an off day, working around Bruce’s busy scheduled and managing Ryan as he has grown. Things become a little more challenging when trying to do things off the beaten path-like taking his beach/all terrain chair for hikes and us getting older... (don’t tell Bruce I said that though 😜😂). We actually pushed him up a mountain (including over and under two downed trees), in his jogger, so we could all see a waterfall. Other hikers thought we were crazy but it was a blast! We were also a lot younger and Ryan wasn’t quite as big! 👊🤣 . I also love spending time with family and friends and have enjoyed our Sunday family get togethers after church! It’s good for me to make myself stop doing and actually sit and visit... I’m a work in progress, that’s for sure! 😜😍 . There are so many things to see and do...what are some of your favorite things to do on the weekend? What would your ideal weekend look like? I’d love to hear your ideas for future weekend activities! 🤩🤩🤩 #weekends #familytime #adventures #specialneeds #specialneedsmom #makeitfun #celebrate #nature #active #hiking
How long have you waited for your child to be diagnosed and receive services for autism? • We’ve heard heartbreaking stories from parents and professionals who say something like this: “We have insurance laws that make insurance companies pay for ABA services but we still have so many children who are not getting treatment.” The Journal of the American Medical Association, examined the impact of the insurance laws that require #ABA treatment of autism spectrum disorders and found that treatment prevalence of ASD was much lower than community prevalence estimates.” In other words, there are thousands of children waiting for services! • We have a public policy solution that involves empowering parents and families during the crucial first years of a child’s development. Help us by sharing your experience! #waitingforservices #nationalconcern
Today in therapy I laughed. The thought of telling a story about Eliza and laughing has scared me. It makes me feel like I’m getting further away from her, that maybe my grief isn’t as hard as it should be. It makes me feel like I’m being disloyal to my sweet girl. I know deep down that none of that is true and yet, it still scares me. But today I shared a memory of Eliza and I laughed... and then; I cried. . . . #elizahope #elizahopecenter #elizahopefoundation #childlose #autismawarenessday #greivingmoms #grief #autism #epilepsy #benice #bekind #stopandsmellthepinecones #dontbeliketherestofthem #specialneedsmom #sweetestgirl #mylove #chkd #nonprofits #heaven #youmakemehappy #blogging #blogger #blogs
#nicuawarenessmonth Conner has always been the best yawner. His yawns are dramatic and wide. Yawning hasn’t always just been a cute thing he does when he is tired. Yawning is actually a sign of stress or discomfort in neonates. It hurt my heart to see Conner yawn or get the hiccups (also a sign of distress) while he was in the NICU. We are now past that stage where yawning 100% means he’s a sleepy monkey! It should be noted that I yawned no less than 14 times while posting this. Did you yawn? 😴

How I feel knowing that being me is all I ever have to be and that what’s meant for me will never pass me by. Everything I desire, everything in alignment with my higher self is already mine. It’s just simply not all here YET✨💁🏻‍♀️ • It’s crazy how one home fitness program turned a what I thought at the time was a weightloss journey into a complete 👉🏽LIFE transformation journey. One program, led to me FINALLY seeing my worth and finally starting to believe in me. One program led to another, which showed me I was capable of MORE. One fitness program led me to a community of people rising up and not just showing up for themselves, but showing up and paving the way for others. One fitness program led me to my coaching business, which led me to my personal growth journey, which led me to my spiritual journey. One program sparked the confidence in me I never knew existed and little by little, that spark grew like never before. So when opportunity knocks on your door, take it, because you NEVER know where it may lead you🖤 • Ready for your own physical and mental transformation? Then join me and link arms with me girlfriend. Hi Everybody 💙💙💙 . Mommy @thebaxters2018 is my HypeMan for the night☺️
It’s been a tough week, friends. . . . A painful anniversary, hubby getting shingles, news that a family member has received some concerning test results, a dear friend moving away, Jacob not sleeping... we thought we had weathered it all pretty well. . . . Then came the phone call that Jacob wasn’t accepted into a disability supported school we had applied for. It was the sharp kick in the guts when we were already down. . . . We’ll be ok, we have other avenues to explore, Jacob’s current school love him and are committed to doing everything they can to support him, everything will work out in the end etc etc... but right now it hurts, and that’s ok. . . . Some days are that.
So watching the show, Shameless, and in the storyline they mentioned how being a AA sponsor is the best way of keeping your sobriety. Yes, it is just a TV show (an awesome one!) But TV is based on reality - sometimes haha. . I couldn't help but compare it to my journey, doing the coaching I do, requires me to keep my journey on track, forces my accountability, and with people relying on me, it makes it that much more important that I don't mess up! It helps that I earn a pay 💵 (we get paid weekly!) plus I have an entire team of support 👭👭(love you guys!) And lots of incentives- hello girls trip in May 🤩 . Seriously, if you REALLY want to make a change, this is the way to do it! Or if you want to make some money. Or if you want to earn trips. Or if you want to help others!! Or if you just want to absolutely crush your goals!! . When you’re a parent of a child with special needs (Intellectual disabilities) there are undeniable challenges one must face, but there are other family members affected in the household as well. We must not forget about the siblings of children with special needs. Siblings of a child with special needs experience life a little differently from the average sibling. They are affected emotionally, mentally, and socially in a very unique way. I am a sibling of a child with special needs. Now as an adult, I wanted to share my perspective in my book, lost and found to give you what I wish someone gave to me years ago before my sister finished high school. I would have passed this book on to my grandmother. I would have allowed this book 📚 to help guide us on our mission to give my sister the best resources for life after high school.
