For the past few months, drewzieff and I have been living in our Chevy Express van, surfing down the coast from Canada to Mexico. Well, we’ve traded surfboards for splitboards and downsized(even more 😂). We are sitting at the airport, just the start of a trip we were only beginning to talk about a few months ago, and even so just as light jokes and passing thoughts. 7 glorious weeks of shredding legendary japow, soaking in natural onsens with (hopefully friendly) monkeys, eating more sushi than we could dream of, and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones day after day, and I’m honestly not sure if I’m more excited to be traveling to japan or just be back in the mountains. Some days I miss having a cozy home to come back to, and crave the voices of good friends more than I could’ve imagined, but I know that professionally and personally, there is no place I’d rather be than about to endure a 28 hour travel day en route to the terrifying and beautiful unknown. Here’s to new adventures, new beginnings, and big things in 2019 🎉 | shout out to the unknown SUPer braving the crashing tides in big sur #livebravely • • • • • • • #optoutside #rei1440project #sup #california #ca #vanlife #naturephotography #theoutbound #liveoutdoors #choosemountainswomen #liveyouradventure #amongthewild #exploretocreate #explore #adventure #womenwhoexplore #sleepinthedirt #sheadventures #shemovesmountains #travelcalifornia #japow #pow

After 3 epic days of extreme amounts of snow, the sun finally came out and a little tiny rainbow appeared.
Raise your hand if you’ve got a favorite underdog park! Plenty of parks are underrated, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison in western Colorado is definitely one of them. Share your favorite underrated park below! 📸: @justinthewild_ #seekmorewilderness
Had his girl and his dog in there. Said to always keep $500 for breakdown. Keep trucking Eloid
The wait is almost over! Stuff sacks will be available next week. Making the DCF seam tape for the stuff sacks is a bit of an involved process, but worth it for the increased durability and waterproofing it provides. GYT|| Day 38+39+40 In the morning we packed up and began walking down the gravel road that would lead us to the highway we would hitch from. Thankfully we got picked up on the gravel road and driven to the highway. From there it took us about 20 minutes, until by total random chance, G string (a good friend from the PCT) pulled over for us. It took us a full few seconds to recognize one another and we were soon off, catching up while heading to Lander. When we got to Lander, we grabbed a quick lunch and found sticks was already there and had figured out his own route out. We said our goodbyes to everyone, as Oilcan and I were trying to get back to Jackson to meet up with Sonic to hike up in Montana. We soon got picked up by a guy who drove us to Dubois, where we stayed the night at the Church hostel. We met some really cool CDT hikers, including an older guy named Glider (pictured). He was proper badass. He had hiked from the source of the Colorado river all the way to the Sea of Cortez over a period of 16 months in the 80s and spent months on end in the winds and Sierra's. He was inspirational to say the least. I hope to one day be as badass as he is. The next day we hitched out of town and got picked up by the coolest hitch yet. This old 1973 Eldorado pulled over with its top down and let us hop in. The owner was an older British guy who told us he used to hitch back in the day and figured why not. We were both in shock that he would let two grungy hikers into his classic car. He told us the car used to belong to a music producer who would shuttle rockstars around in the car, and said Elton John, and Johnny Cash, were among some of the individuals who had had the pleasure of getting a ride in it. Thankfully they took us all the way to Jackson, where we drank sloshies and were invited to stay at Beans’ Mom’s place for the night. It was an excellent spot to relax for the night. Early the next day Sonic drove over to pick us up and we headed up to the trailhead of “the beaten path” in Montana to connect what we had missed. We met up with Pebbles, and camped at the trailhead after a drive through a snowstorm over Beartooth pass.

My morning view while being Interlodged up at Alta.
Another year. This is my birthday post. I remember my birthday last year. I spent it in the water surfing. Today I spent it organizing my camera gear and dialing in my living space. Adulting hard at 37. But I am appreciative of the people that called and wrote to wish me well. I have every intention of diving deeper into the pursuit of photography and telling the story of my life through frames and compositions. I hope you will all join me for what is to come. It’s been a long journey to arrive here at this point. I reflected today on some of my early photos and stopped for the briefest moment to appreciate how far I’ve come. But there’s is still so much more to explore. I’ll be on it. #NeverStopExploring #REI1440Project #SleepInTheDirt #OptOutside #GETOUTSTAYOUT #TheTrailSpeaks #formomentslikethis #travel #adventure #travelphotography #instatravel #traveltheworld #welltravelled #justbackfrom #passportexpress #passionpassport #travelblogger #landscape #adventure #instagood #earthtones #natureinspired #earthpics #exploretocreate #theoutbound
We had so much fun shredding today with @bryaniguchi and his family. We are grateful for the snow and looking forward to shredding more of it tomorrow. Jackson is incredible the 3000’ vertical runs along with some wet pow kicked Mac and Sidra’s butt. Riding with a mini shred crew really brings out the inner child in us old farts. The joy of playing in the snow is unbeatable. #gofarfeelgood #smartlwool #volcomsnow #bigagnes #truetothis #bigagnes #sleepinthedirt #mtnGLO #motherofcomfort #teamcampfire #unionbindngco #capitasupercorp #capitasnowboards #unionbindings #snowsavage #powpow #powderchasers #jacksonhole #joy #drawlines #powdersalmon

"About a year ago I decided to move from California to Kyrgyzstan. I moved there in my thirst to learn and to explore wild places – full of unknown people, unknown faces, unknown language, unknown culture, and unknown nature. I’ve always had a passion for exploration, the outdoors, and scientific discoveries, so I decided to carve a career for myself at this intersection of nature conservation, adventure, and scientific research." 📸 & 📝:Suraiya Luecke Full blog via link in bio. #motherofcomfort #sleepinthedirt #sleepinthesnow

Climbing Katahdin, it was hard to not think about that sign - not even 2 miles ahead. Oh!That beautiful and distressed sign that I’ve been walking towards for half a year. Perched somewhere at the top of this massive mountain I’m on. Though I’m happy I took a moment to look behind me 🍁 PS ending in Maine the first week in Oct, highly recommended

GYT|| Day 37 In the morning, all the weather had cleared up and we got out of camp at a decent hour. We made it up and over the first of two mountain passes we had for the day soon enough, and even found some NOLS people hiking with llamas on the backside. The second mountain pass was not so easily achieved. It was boulder hopping for about 2 miles and was staggeringly slow paced. Everyone was annoyed and fed up with this bit of shwacking and we took lunch next to Boulder Lake (very appropriately named). The trail has since been rerouted to spare future hikers from the dreadful area. I did a spot of fishing and was so successful, Waterboy jokingly said we shouldn’t leave until I had caught 20 fish. I decided to take that seriously and met the goal within about 45 minutes. We packed up and took off just as some menacing clouds rolled in. Thankfully at the top of the pass, it turned grassy and lightly wooded as we descended to a trail. On the way down I came across a few elk cow that ran at the sight of me. Just as I got to the established trail, the skies opened up and it began to pour. I kept moving quickly 1 because it was raining, and 2 because I had agreed to meet up with this cool photographer, Nick, I met in Jackson who wanted to shoot portraits of us finishing. As I moved the storm became more and more intense. Soon it was hailing pretty hard and the lightning began to hammer away at the landscape. I continued moving quickly, soon getting to jeep roads that I followed down to get to where we would meet Nick. The final mile and a half were amazing as I descended into the Great Divide Basin. You could watch the Yellowstone Ecosystem melt away and turn to desert. The trees thinning to brush and to rocks turning to sandstone. The smell of sagebrush was dense in the air. It is an impressive and sharp change of scenery. I finally met up with Nick, well over 3.5 hours late. After profusely apologizing, we enjoyed a few beers while waiting for everyone else to catch up. We decided we would camp there at the road that night with Nick after a quick photoshoot and all enjoyed dinner together until another storm chased us into our beds. Photo credit: @nroushphoto

. Thinking back on last year, this was one of my favorite moments. We had been hiking in the Gulf Islands and little Ra fell asleep, so we decided to take a family nap in the middle of the woods. Only I couldn’t sleep because it was sooo beautiful and enchanting with the sound of the wind in the trees, bird calls all around, and the dappled light dancing upon us. 🍃 Lying there, looking up at the canopy brought such a sense of grounding and deep relaxation that I had not felt for a long time. I’ve lied down in nature before, but it wasn’t like this numinous space, this magical place. It was like the green bower I often dreamt of as a child... it was like arriving home. 🍃 . #natureisamazing #biophilia #liveoutside #optoutside #perfectmoments #pnwonderland #explorebc #westcoastbestcoast #nofilter #wildandfree #canopy #grateful #pnw #family #sacredgrove #exploremore #momlife #celebrate_childhood #momswithcameras #runwildmychild #magic_marvels #lookup #sleepinthedirt #lifeisbetteroutside #adventurefamily #wearethewild #stayandwander #momentsinthesun #kidsandnature #fatherandson
