It really sucks having been where you want to be and taking 100 steps back ☹️😫 — I was 130lbs just 3 years ago; 5 pounds from my goal weight. But I gained 90lbs; 30 each of those years, especially when the holidays came around. — But you know what? Looking back, I was not at a good place in a lot of ways. I was at my worst, mentally and even in health. I ate very little and did nothing but cardio just to get my mind off things. I was “skinny fat” tbh. I still felt fat and bloated. Even tho I didn’t eat much, it was always carb-heavy foods. I had very little will to eat sometimes and was always in bed or biking to escape my mind. When I took that photo, I had just started dating my now-husband. I was happy again and eating not to fill a void, but because that’s just how we bonded (we love food). I don’t blame my weight-gain on him at all. Cuz he truly saved me from depression and heartache. I ate cuz I was happy. But I OVER ate 😬 — He married me even when I was at my heaviest and hated myself for surpassing my previously heaviest weight. Now I’m working on loving myself every day just as he loves me no matter how I look 🥰 — I look at these pictures and I see more than just the drastic weight difference, I see the happiness in my eyes now, the dark past of where I was and the bright present & future of where I am now and where I’m going to be. I’m at a good place and the number on the scale is just a number. I wouldn’t go back to the state I was in, even if it meant being skinny and at my goal. This time around, I’m gonna do it right. 1 week until show - time to #reflect on the lessons learnt during this prep: originally I had only planned to compete until June this year - and by "planned" I mean I made sure I could invest 100% in prep - my time, energy, money. And then move on to my next life goals- however after the June show I decided to compete one more time. Deciding last minute meant I had to find the resources to do it- which meant making difficult decisions and putting off my goals by 6 months. For me my time is my most valuable resource and spending 3-4 hours daily on prep was a tough compromise... ... Usually I don't make decisions like this but this time I saw an opportunity to really bring my personal best to the stage- I really wanted to see how I'd look & do with some great coaching @teamatlasmtl. So I made it happen- one goal and my life has revolves around it for the last couple months. I've had countless frustrating moments which I've handle by thinking I'm giving up so much to be able to do this, I better do it the best I can. So.... 2 lessons here: .. 1. learn to recognize when opportunities arise and take the necessary steps (hint: opportunity is disguised as work, it's not going to be rainbows & sunshine) 2. To have a better chance of achieving your goal, invest 100% in it. The more you put in, the more you'll want the results.. ... Thank you everyone for the love and support during my prep! Summer 2016 —> Now. . It’s been a minute since I posted a transformation, but I’ve been thinking about the picture on the left for a long time. Which is kind of ridiculous, to think about one insignificant picture for as long as I have. But I remember exactly how I felt when that picture was taken. I was extremely self conscious, on vacation, and though I was “skinny”, I still felt insecure. . I don’t take a lot of pictures in bikinis for that reason usually. I am fully aware that my transformation is small, and most people would say I didn’t have weight to lose anyway. But for me, obsessing over fitness was never about that. Learning about fitness and nutrition has empowered me to make better, informed choices without as much guilt and to feel confident in my own skin. . No matter what your starting point is, you can, should, and deserve to feel comfortable in your own skin. That looks different for every woman, but for me, it was about building strength. For me, it was about toning my body through a variety of ways and pushing my physical capacity to accomplish things I never would have done in high school (like I don’t know, run for more than a mile or go three months without ice cream). . Since that picture, I have completed 6 different fitness and health programs, run a half marathon, spent 80 days abstaining from alcohol and sweets, and most importantly, learned to workout in the morning. It’s been a hell of a ride so far, but I’m enjoying each moment. . So this is for you. For the girl who doesn’t think she can. For the girl who isn’t confident in herself. For the girl who watches me and other “fitspo” people and doesn’t think she can. I’m starting a brand new program by the end of this month, and I want you to believe in yourself enough to do it with me. Why wait for January 1st?
This may take longer than I imagine but it still a goal to aspire too. Good session at gym tonight straight from work or it wouldn't of happened. But feeling good now after a shower I can still feel the burn. Finally braving a full on #transformationtuesday post aarrrgghhhhh 🙈🙈 When people heard I’d started going to the gym, all I got was “why?!” “You’re not even fat...” “there’s nowt on you anyway” blah blah blah 🙄 No, I wasn’t “fat”, but I had fat I wasn’t happy with, and jiggled more than I was comfortable with, so I did something about it! It’s not just about losing the fat though, it’s about building muscle, about getting strong 💪🏼 about feeling better in myself - which I completely do! I LOVE training now, and can’t imagine not doing it. I’m still not shifting any massive weights, but I’ve come a long way from where i started, and I’ll keep working at it. In my happy place 😌 Coming to the gym and putting my headphones 🎧 on and getting work done 💪🏻 is the best part of my day sometimes. I have goals and I’m going for them 👊🏻 I’m trying to build lean muscle and tone my body, so I’m focusing on intensity in my workouts, consistency, and eating correctly (and eating enough!) The gym is where it starts tho 🙇🏻‍♀️ My trainer sent me my new split this week and I’m PSYCHED to do them! . Also, I finally gave in and dug up my old pair of chucks to wear for leg days 😎 My specialized running shoes for bad knees just weren’t cutting it anymore 🙅🏻‍♀️ as I started lifting heavier. Chucks made SUCH a big difference!! Weekly weigh after eating like horse all week and I have lost 0.2lbs 3 days at the gym and increased weights my muscle mass has stayed the same at 106.4lbs. About 4 years ago I was in the best shape of my life! Flash forward to now after changing jobs, moving three times, and getting married, I have lost track of my fitness and healthy lifestyle. I have no one to blame but myself. But, this week something sparked my motivation again. I saw a YouTube video of someone’s fitness journey who was in a similar point in their life. Well pleased another 2.5lbs last week the diet and gym seem to be working as weight is up and muscle mass has gone up by 0.9lbs. start again this week keep on striving for my goal weight and physical appearance. When things get rough at work or in life, I come to the gym, put my headphones 🎧 on, drown out the noise and work towards my goals 💪🏻 Cause I know that will make me feel better!! Todays #tbt is my 3rd & final post for my 2 year transformation! 😊 ☆Left: July 2016 = 120 lbs ☆Right: June 2018 = 127 lbs - If you have ever wondered what "skinny fat" means, this is a perfect example. On the left, I'm 5'8 and weigh 120 so my weight and BMI were at the low end of normal for women my height; however, these numbers don't factor in body composition. I didn't have much muscle and my body fat percentage was probably atleast in the upper 20s. I can't say for sure because I didn't have measurements taken at that time😔 - When I had my most unhealhty eating habits, I was at my lowest weight and eventually I started to notice that I was constantly tired, had frequent headaches, and all around didn't feel great mentally or physically. So just because someone is skinny it doesn't mean they are healthy. - When I was younger, I ate a bunch of terrible food/didnt work out and never gained weight. I don't even think I hit 100lbs until my sophomore year of high school. People would always tell me I was anorexic, but that never bothered me because I knew it wasn't true. All these years later when I finally started eating healthier and working out consistently, I actually started to gain weight. I was finally building muscle and feeling more energized throughout the day.😄 - Even with my lifestyle changes, gaining and keeping the weight on is still a challenge. At a certain point toward the end of my preps, I can't stop losing weight no matter how much I eat. Definitely not complaining but that can be an issue when you compete in bikini bodybuilding competitions lol - So what does all of the mean?! If your goal is to improve your health overall, BMI can be used as a general guide, weight gain/loss is just one of several ways to track progress, and body composition is probably the most important factor to consider/improve. - My point is that may have different goals so it's always important to aspire to be healthy not just skinny. ☺
