While I’m not one for trying to simulate sporting movements in the gym, but rather sporting forces. I do however think when we get to the return to sport phases of rehab we need to help/coach the athlete to convert their strength into something functional. This example shows great control of the body-at speed. This is where variety is important, the different animal movements are great, using a basketball for football players etc. load them and let them play and figure out how to control their body and become more athletic, it will make a huge difference.

Not being able to stick your chest out will cause your shoulderblades not to tuck back which overall makes the whole thing less stable and less \"strong\" of a starting point. Human joints come in many shapes and sizes and allow us to move and carry out normal activities of daily living. Without joints, we would be rigid and immobile. But they are also often injured, causing pain and discomfort. The most commonly injured joints are the knees, shoulders, ankles and spine. Approximately 30 million doctor visits a year are due to knee and shoulder injuries alone. Some 150 million to 200 million cases of back pain send people to the doctor every year—and many of those are related to joint injuries.#shoulderpain
💥Kneeling Thoracic Extension💥 - 💥 This is one of my favorite exercises to improve mobility of the thoracic spine into extension. You can use a chair, bench, or even the side of a wall in a pinch - 💥 Sitting back towards your heels causes your lumbar spine to flex forward after your hip joints stop flexing, allowing the majority of the extension movement to come through the thoracic spine. And locking the hands behind the neck keeps you from feeling any pinching in the shoulder joints while providing a cue to make sure your head and neck don't drift forward - 💯 As I've previously mentioned, the thoracic spine is an area that very commonly lacks appropriate extension mobility for achieving upright postures, overhead movement, and many other athletic activities (such as throwing a ball) as well. Working on and maintaining mobility in this area of the spine can help to keep our shoulders healthy, neck less cranky, and lower back less sensitive to overuse, so it's a good idea to work on it on a daily basis. You only need a few minutes per day 😉 - ❤️ TAG a friend who could use some work on thoracic spine mobility!
Shoulder pain is the second most common condition that I treat at my office. _ There’s a few general guidelines that I often use. _ 1️⃣ Assess and address all movement impairments. Even if they’re complaining of right shoulder pain, I want to confirm that their left hip isn’t part of the equation. 2️⃣ Restore full active range of motion in that region and surrounding regions. For example, a Thoracic spine that doesn’t extend well will not allow a good shoulder position for an overhead press. 3️⃣ Lay off the specific movements or exercises that produce the pain temporarily or modify them to allow the tissues involved to recover fully. 4️⃣ When it comes to lifting, band pullaparts, overhead carries, loaded carries in general and lots of external rotation and extension for the shoulders is often lacking (in my opinion). _ Swipe to check out some exercises that I like with the @perform_better resistance bands. Self Care Sunday - Sore Shoulders @fitomizefitness ____ Sore shoulders are a relatively common problem among people of all ages. The shoulder is a complex joint which is why shoulder pain can be caused by muscle strains, ligament sprains, joint dislocations and even mid back or neck issues. ___ Most sore shoulders are self-limiting and fade away within a week — sometimes quicker if you take care of it at home appropriately; however, sometimes sore shoulders need professional help for complete resolution. ___ If you have been suffering from shoulder pain here are some #selfcaretips 1. Take some anti-inflammatory medicine. I’m a huge fan of homeopathic remedies such as arnica or Ruta but if you prefer ibuprofen you can use that as well. 2. If it’s recent pain then use ice. 3. Use the acronym METH once some of the inflammation has gone down. Start with the moves in the video. Full video on my YouTube channel. 4. Elevation - using controlled articulated rotations (CARs) to work on the joint. 5. Traction - hanging is recommended. This will help bulletproof your shoulders. 6. Heat - If your sore shoulder has been bothering you for many weeks or months, then it's considered a chronic injury. Avoid cold therapy for chronic injuries and use moist heat instead. One of the most impactful shifts in my ways of thinking came about last year when I learnt this idea of decompression breathing. Not belly breathing. Ribcage breathing. Not to calm you down (even though in a round about way it does) but to set you up. To set you up for better posture, better digestion, deeper breathing and better functioning organs. A deeper breath that creates so much healthy change throughout the body and continues to improve with each day that I practice it. Watch the mri in this video from day 1 of the @foundationtraining certification and listen closely to what @docgoodman has to say. Look at the movement that occurs when a deep breath is taken. That’s not a belly breath, that movement occurs because the ribcage is expanding outward in all directions, providing movement, nourishment and space, which is essential for a healthy human body. This idea is not widely taught but is a crucial piece of the healthy human puzzle that I will forever be trying to put together. BUILD UP YOUR SHOULDER STRENGTH . Despite what it sounds like, building up your shoulder strength actually means building up your shoulder blade strength. They are the key to strength in an overhead position. . Whether you swim, push heavy weight, or just want to keep your shoulders healthy I’d recommend trying this out. . If you have pain when you lift overhead, you may want to skip this one and get that checked out. . Here we’re working on the lower trapezius muscle, which helps rotate and tip your scapula so you can get maximum overhead reaching ability. . I like the up and over lift because it really makes you squeeze every ounce of strength you have out of those low trap muscles. . Try it out! . Tips on form: . 1️⃣ Get into a superman position with your shoulder blades relaxed and away from your ears. . 2️⃣ To lift your arms, think about pointing your thumbs up and poking them into the ceiling. You may feel some squeezing in the shoulder blades as you go; that’s a good thing. . 3️⃣ Perform 20-30 reps with rest as needed. . . . #RehabWithTyler #RehabWithTylerShoulderSeries
