I snapped this photo from a canoe on Daniels Pond in Glover, Vermont. Apart from the obvious natural beauty of the area (👀 that sunset!) I was struck by the silence. I’ve lived in a city for most of my adult life. Revving engines, raucous conversations, and a constant rumble of activity serves as the soundtrack of the urban existence.
As we paddled out to the middle of the pond, I was sure that our conversation could be heard from the shore. With everything so still, it seemed as if the smallest sound could be carried across the water.
