I started my hike to the Marys Rock with the morning twilight. Snow and ice were everywhere and absorbed the moisture from the air, making it fresh and easy to breathe. I slowly ascended to the summit, stopping on the way and looking through tree branches down to the Thornton Gap. Hidden by the forest during the summer time the Lee Highway was laying open on the mountain ridges. Because of that, I arrived at the overlook just a few minutes before a cloud covered the top of the mountain, blocking all the views. Left with no vistas, I came close to rocks and studied shapes of areas not covered by snow. A small plant - a mountain laurel that was growing on the border between the rock and the snow, attracted my attention. I looked at the nearby rock, then at the plant, and then to the trees in the background, covered by rim ice. That was my composition. I set my camera and made the capture of my Winter Day at Marys Rock.
The video about how I photographed this scene is in my bio.

Wrapping up my time in Australia today and I am feeling so inspired by all the fun shoots I got to do here! Not excited to return to below freezing temps, but I can’t wait to finally have time to sit down and edit through the sessions and see my dude again! 🤗
As previously mentioned, I do not love snow or cold, but I love hiking more than I dislike either. Big thanks to @shenandoahnps
for leaving Mary’s Rock accessible, despite the shutdown and snow/ice. I rarely start at the base and go up, partly because it’s short, and partly because it’s steep. With the addition of the ice and snow, it was a great workout. I def fell a few times. It is VERY icy, and because of it, I think the hardest hike I have done in a while. My camelback froze. The top was so cold, windy, and ice covered I only stayed long enough for two pics and started back down. It was definitely the adventure I wanted today... .

From drab to fab this framed beauty gets installed today. What would you call this mountain piece? It’s a view of the “Devil’s Courthouse” in the blue ridge mountains of NC.
Mum, who is that?
The drawback of arriving on a foggy morning in the Shenandoah National Park? No views whatsoever. The perks? The wildlife feels save in the mist. These deer were grazing incredibly close to the Skyline Drive and even though this young deer was clearly startled by my presence, the older animals were calmly tolerating me and my camera.
•×• wip •×• Revisiting this Blind Window | Big Meadows painting I started back in August. Painted the first three of many Monarchs that will float through this piece. I'll also add more detail to the milkweed. Looking forward to more studio time tonight! 🦋🦋🦋
