Delicious heart warming, home cooked food! Came yesterday when they had Teochew Rice Kueh in fishmaw soup and it was really my favourite! Apparently all the recipes are by the boss's mother in law who is a Teochew. The food is affordable as mains range from $4-6.50, and they also have sides and desserts, and tingkat dinners for takeaway. I really liked how comforting the food is, and I can't wait to come back again to try other daily specials :) #burpple #foodphotography #instafood #foodporn #sgig #nuh #porridge #dinner #teochew #sgcheapeats #tsoigood

Popiah ($2.50) ⭐️ 4.5/5 ⭐️
Kueh pie tee ($4.80) ⭐️ 3.5/5 ⭐️
🍴Expect a wait on the weekend at this tiny no-frills shop at coronation plaza as many people come to take away their delicious #popiah
and other nonya delights (mee siam/ laksa). After placing our order, the #kuehpietee
came immediately while the popiah took about 25 mins. While slightly expensive, the popiah is a generous big roll with thin soft skin packed with tasty ingredients of chinese radish & boiled egg, and was surprisingly filling. The special addition of crispy bits adds a nice crunch and texture. The Kueh pie tee is a do-it-yourself style with chili & greens at the side. It was perfectly crispy but we wished for it to have maybe some prawns/ other ingredients beyond just radish to give a more well-rounded flavour

Wanton soup ($3.50/$4.50)
⭐️ 4.5/5 ⭐️
🍴This famous wanton mee store is known for their springy noodles and fragrant cha siew but their lesser known wanton soup is also delicious. The soup is flavourful and the wantons have a smooth soft skin that’s just the right thickness to pair with the ingredients. The #wanton
are packed with fresh ingredients of meat, prawn & radish. The crunchy radish gives a nice balance to the soft meat & prawns.

Beef Lamian ($5)
Tomato & egg dao xiao mian ($5)
Sze Chuan dumplings ($5)
⭐️ 3/5 ⭐️
🍴Set up by an ex Crystal Jade chef, the handmade noodles here is on-par in quality to the famous Chinese chain at 1/3 of the price & at very generous portions. Sadly, the zha jiang mian and pork & veg dumplings were sold out when we went (6.15pm on Sunday) so we could only try three dishes. We highly enjoyed the noodle texture of the #beeflamian
. The beef is the cheap beef brisket cuts but the noodles are enough of a star to forgive the forgettable beef. The #daoxiaomian
(knife-cut noodles) was highly interesting with it being just a simple dish made with tomatoes & egg but very flavourful. The dumplings had yummy meat fillings but the skin could be slightly less thick ⚠️ There’s a constant queue that moves quite fast and this advanced store gives a queue no and has a LCD screen so one can sit and wait for their number to be called

Checked out another brunch place in my hood...oven baked molten eggs with smoked salmon - you will love it if you love avocado, a generous slice and really creamy and yum! There was so much cheese though I am still stuffed after 7 hours. Pretty good deal for $17.9! Their coffee was also good and strong - all double shot so will surely keep you awake for the day! 🥑🥚🧀🍅🍞☕
Looking for brunch options? You shouldn't waste your money at @littlecreatures_sg
...$14++ for 3 eggs omelette and bread...while omelette is not the fanciest food I have certainly been to places where it's cooked and presented way better. Perhaps their beer is good, but I definitely wouldn't recommend their brunch. 🥚🍞🍅
I've decided to disclose the location of this 烧肉 place. This plate of 叉烧烧肉 has been my go to plate of food for countless weeks whenever I'm at this hawker centre. The food is really cheap and good value for money (entire plate including egg was S$5!) The 烧肉 is very nicely crispy and not overly salty. The fat to meet ratio is just how I like it. Unfortunately the 叉烧 is nothing to rave about. But the highlight imo is definitely the 烧肉. .
Although I'm disclosing the location of this place, I hope the queues remain non-existent so that I don't have to wait long for it.

Yuzu chirashi don set ($11.90 nett)
⭐️ 3/5 ⭐️
🍴Discovered this Japanese subset of #astonspecialities
that serves affordable food at nett prices! Besides student meals that gives 1 free drink & side for every main, there are #supervaluelunch
sets every mon-fri 11.30am-5pm. The chirashi was a bit of a let down as there was very little and small pieces of sashimi. The yuzu was hardly noticeable and while I was okay with it, it is a bit on the weird side in adding a citrus slightly sour taste to the sashimi. The set was still very filling with two big pieces of chicken karage, salad & green tea. Perhaps it was just the chirashi that was a slight let down and I will be back to try the other value sets/ affordable mains.

Chicken Pad Thai ($5) ⭐️ 3.5/5 ⭐️
Thai Milk Tea ($2.80) ⭐️ 3/5 ⭐️
🍴Newly opened and coming from Bangkok, #tooklaedee
offers authentic Thai food at an affordable price (compared to some other places). Their speciality #padkrapow
was sold out when we reached slightly past 7pm. The #padthai
was well-cooked with springy noodles but pretty average in taste (you get what you pay for). Liked the addition of crushed peanuts and lime for a sour kick. Not sure if it was a mistake but the portions were quite varied with mine being more of a typical portion but my friend’s being 1/3 smaller 😕. Would also recommend going with chicken rather than paying $1.20 more for only 3 tiny prawns. The #thaimilktea
was average without a strong distinct tea taste but I liked that the condensed milk was served on the side so one can customize how sweet they want it to be; the tea did get a bit diluted tho when the ice was left to melt. While the #butterflypeatea
($2.80) is aesthetically pretty for its purple-blue colour, it really just tastes like sprite with a bit of colouring so don’t get your hopes up 😅

Fish beehoon/porridge ($5.80) ⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
Fried egg with bittergourd ($9.80) ⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
🍴There are two options for the soup - with or without milk - and both are really good. The no milk one has a stronger fish & vegetable taste while the milk one is a nice balance of lightness with subtle fish flavour. The sliced fish are of substantial thickness and really fresh, and there is a generous amount for $5.80. The fried egg was fluffy, not too oily and the bittergourd gave a nice bitter flavour to the slightly sweet & salty egg
⚠️ Reaching at 11.40am, we just beat the crowd that quickly formed soon after. By noon, there was no more free seats and a queue so do go at off peak times if you don’t want to wait (although there was still quite a crowd at 2pm on the weekend). But do note that they take quite long to cook the food and we waited about 20-30mins

Fish steamboat (L $45 for 6 people)
⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
🍴This well-know #fishsteamboat
is highly popular, having up to 1.5hr of wait during peak hours. So do go early like 5-5.30pm if you don’t want to wait. It’s rich in flavours and a very generous portion with lots of fresh fish, vegetables & yam. The side dishes are also great, especially loved the Mei Cai (preserved vege) that was crunchy and not overly sour/ salty like some places. Only minor complain was that it wasn’t temperature hot enough even after using two solid fuel (maybe it’s a problem with large size) which made it slightly less enjoyable.
