3 month post op. Everything is looking good! Healing up well. I’m extremely grateful. But I’m not sure if there’s enough hardware in my back though? 🤔😉 I do get to wean out of my Wonder Woman shell, and slowly start incorporating more activity. 👍 Excited about that! It’s been fun at times wearing this here brace. The kiddos seem to like it. And there hasn’t been any shortage of questions when I’m out and about. Thank you all for the positive thoughts, wishes, vibes... and all that fun stuff! So much love for you all. ❤️ #scoliosissurgery #healing #3monthpostop #straighteningup #spinalfusion #scoliosisproblems #hardwaregalore

I am so honored to be apart of the new @MaggyLondon
campaign Design Your Life. This campaign is all about doing what makes you happy and fulfilled, so you can reach your true potential as a person. Maggy London wanted me to talk about why it is I turned to blogging and share my story. For those who didn’t know, I used to be a ballerina. I have always been a very creative person and ballet was my outlet and passion. I have a condition called scoliosis that was left untreated as a kid and over time that completely warped my body and affected dancing to the point I had to stop training. As an adult, I became the director and owner of a ballet school and have taught children ballet (which I love). As the years went on, my scoliosis got so severe that I needed spine surgery after my last child was born. I turned to blogging to help me cope with the anxiety and frustration of that surgery. Long story short, I ended up with 2 titanium rods and 26 screws in my spine, along with a spinal cord injury paralyzing my left leg and an emergency bowel resection 4 days afterward. It was a complete nightmare and it has been a struggle to this very day. Depressed about not being able to teach as much as I used to, I began my fashion blog to fulfill that creative passion I have always had. If you would like to read more about my story, check the link in my profile. ❤️ #designyourlife #mylifeinmaggy #imawarrior #linkinbio #sponsored #maggylondon #betruetoyourself

Before you ask... yes, I AM flexing. 🙈 And yes, this is more muscle than I used to have. I have always had dreadful upper body strength, and since my surgery I have babied my back and upper body out of both necessity and fear. They ripped up my muscles along my spine and shoulders, leaving impressive amounts of nerve damage as well. But tbh, I am so freaking proud 😁 I've always been ashamed and embarrassed of my body's muscle and lack thereof. I lost nearly 10lbs of muscle and fat from my surgery when I had already lost a substantial amount of weight before that (in a healthy way). So going from 🚫 muscle to here feels pretty good.

I think personally for myself big changes happened when I labelled myself as a bodybuilder.
It may cause some giggles and teasing from people outside the natural bodybuilding scene because they think to be a bodybuilder you must look like @cbum
but in reality a lot of natural bodybuilders look like normal people. Because generally we aren’t actually that much bigger than the average Joe.
But the thing is I genuinely don’t care if it’s a bit giggle worthy for myself to say I’m a bodybuilder because you have live the lifestyle before you can become respected in this game.
We bringing a PHAT package to 2020/2019 (we’ll see 😏)
So the first five miles of training are completed!
Living with Scoliosis is hard. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t struggle to sit upright or find it difficult to put on my shoes. Running a ten mile Tough Mudder is going to prove myself wrong and show myself just how much I can do if I put my mind to it 💪🏻 We’re running for the Scoliosis Campaign Fund - a really important charity that’s helping support young people through living with Scoliosis including surgery and rehabilitation, but also through the mental impact of living with a chronic illness.
It would be amazing if you’re able to help is out - the link is here and in the bio: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-portal/fundraiserPage?pageId=953294

Picture pre surgery! I was able to sit on my bed comfortably read a book, be on my phone, watch YouTube and not worry about shifting position as now it takes A LOT of effort move in bed. Today however I kind of felt normal, I caught myself walking and not thinking about my back but once the thought crossed my mind I made sure to check my posture. It was nice to have that moment of normality. Hoping to get into a swimming pool this weekend for some gentle water walking and floating!! I'm excited already 😊 I feel like I'm a lot of added stress to daily life with my family, I am very dependent on them and have a lot of demands and needs. I know I need to take it slowly but I just want to be doing my normal things again and not be so scared of hurting myself 😔 #scoliosisawareness #scoliosissurgery #spinalfusionrecovery #spinalfusion #scoliosis #scoliosisireland #surgery #positivity

Steppin' out into Monday like...you don't have to be at the top of a mountain, metaphorically or otherwise, to get it ON today. It'll be hard and shitty, but despite the extra hardship and hardshit in your life, y'all still gotta show up. You might have valid excuses and reasons outside of your own control, but it's still your life and you gotta live it. Sometimes that means taking a break, sleeping in, self care, but sometimes it means checking yourself and stepping out there when it's really fucking hard. Listen to yourself and your body and your mind and ask what it is today and this week that you need. Is it a time to rest? Is it a time to push? Either way, be there for it. 👍

Serafian toipuminen on lähtenyt hyvin käyntiin. Nyt iloitaan ensiaskelista skolioosileikkauksen jälkeen. Olemme olleet loistavassa hoidossa täällä❤. Vielä on pitkä toipumisen matka edessä. Kuukausi sairaslomalla. Puolen vuoden liikuntakielto.
Serafia has started recovering well after big scoliosis surgery. We are glad about first steps after surgery. It takes still time to recover. Half year no egerzise and one month sick leave. We are lucky that we have had the worlds most excellent service here❤. #skolioosi #scoliosis #scoliosissurgery #skolioosileikkaus #tyks #ortopedia
So this boy had his first real fall post-op today (after these pics). Scared the mess out of us. He and G were in the bathroom and he sat on the edge of the tub. Since he has had no issues balancing sitting up, best we can figure, since his behind was on the shower curtain the tension in the curtain maybe made him think it would catch him if he leaned back. It didn’t. 😞 And he awkwardly fell back into the tub before G could catch him. He hit his head on the top edge of the tub and then his back hit somehow. There is some redness and broke skin in one area. 😢 G and I are both devastated and praying everything is ok. When you ask him if he has a boo boo, he points to his head, not his back, so I am taking that as a good sign. So we would love prayers for safe healing and that his back is still fine and healing well and also that he does not have a concussion or subdural hematoma (as he has a history of both).
Oh this child hurts our hearts like nothing else. 😔🙏

Each day is different. Every morning so far I have woken up wondering what will today bring. At breakfast I was in pain from morning back stiffness so much that I had no feeling around my left rib cage, I was very scared by that. Once I'd pain relief, did deep breath to stop myself crying as it makes it worse and went for a walk in the back yard I was better and feeling more perky. Although that's physical, the mental and emotional side can be completely different. I am tired, bored from all the limitations, frustrated at not being able to simply shift into a comfortable position, not being able to lean down and pet my dog. No one prepares you for that side of it. I won't lie, it's harder than I thought. Each day it will get easier and each morning when I wake up, i do know one thing, I am more determined to get to be able to do those things again. #scoliosisawareness #scoliosissurgery #scolistrong #scoliosisstrong #mentalhealthawareness
Shoutout to my surgeons Dr. PeKarev & Dr. Dixon for working so hard to make the spine fusion surgery successful. They had to remove two rods and screws from my back after 14 years since 2005. They might hand me the hardware so I can keep it to look at it and frame it. Before the hardware was put in, I had a 56’ degree curvature. It was bad scoliosis!
I was discharged from the hospital today and currently in a lot of pain from neck down with sharp pain feeling of thousand of knifes stabbing unstoppable along the spinal cord mixed with a huge relief. The spinal fusion journey has been the most physically painful and emotionally challenging experience I’ve ever lived.
Limitations have always been a huge factor because it limited my activities such as workout, hobbies, and not able to sit and relax for no more than 15-30 mins at times. It is so uncomfortable to feel the screws rubbing against my skin as I sit back on a chair or lean against the wall. Also, the grueling pain of muscles grow around the hardware when I excerise. It hurts every single time. Patience comes to those who wait patiently and that patience of mine is paid off!
Starting life with new back is very exciting. Im glad that the surgery is over and ready for a major change physically and emotionally for the rest of my life with a straight spine!
Thank you everyone for throwing me a lot of loves, supports and prayers especially my parents!! I can’t thank enough on how appreciative I am!! #spinalfusion #scoliosissurgery #scoliosis #14years #hardwareremoval #painfulandthankful #lifechangingmoment #straightback #harrismethodist #fortworth #texas #newjourney #hugerelief #nomorepain

Today I got out of the house and drove the very short journey to the beach. I managed to walk a little part of it and back up the Walk way which was slightly steep 🙊 it is weird as the rest of my body feels perfectly capable yet my back isn't and so although my legs could carry me, I could feel every sand ridge beneath my feet along my back muscles as I took a step. Another achievement, I needed to get out of the house and do something that was normal for an afternoon pre surgery. #scoliosisawareness #scoliosissurgery #scolistrong #scoliosis
#scoliosi #scoliosisawareness #scoliosisprobs #scoliosissurgery #scoliosisstory #scoliosislife #disabled #disabilità
