Movie Review - The Incredibles (2004)
PG , 115 Minutes
Married superheroes Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl are forced to assume mundane lives as Bob and Helen Parr after all super-powered activities have been banned by the government. While Mr. Incredible loves his wife and kids, he longs to return to a life of adventure, and he gets a chance when summoned to an island to battle an out-of-control robot. Soon, Mr. Incredible is in trouble, and it's up to his family to save him.
It’s going to be hard to describe how great this movie is, but I’ll give it a try. The Incredibles is the most rewatchable film I’ve ever reviewed, including Inception. This is my favorite Pixar movie and possibly my favorite superhero film of all time. The voice acting is *incredible*, with director Brad Bird as Edna Mode still making me laugh every time. For a PG movie, the story is actually quite adult. There are lawsuits, suspected affairs, a suicide attempt in the first six minutes, and the antagonist’s plot literally revolves around killing superheroes. Speaking of the antagonist, Syndrome is probably the best supervillain to ever be created. His motivation makes so much sense and his name even comes from Hero Syndrome, which he has. The Incredibles feels less like a superhero flick and more like a spy thriller, which is fun to think about knowing that Brad Bird would direct the fourth Mission Impossible seven years later. This movie isn’t necessarily about superheroes, but a family that just so happens to be superheroes. There is literally nothing wrong with this movie, except that it isn’t perfect. But there isn’t any such thing as a perfect movie. And since Pixar is such a great studio, we finally got the sequel this year, a movie that still remains in my top five of 2018 with half a month left. The Incredibles is one of the most incredible movies I’ve ever seen.
