Movie: First Man(2018)
Director: Damien Chazelle
Cast: Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Pablo Schreiber, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit, Lukas Haas, Shea Whigham "That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” All of us know this famous quote. We also know where it was said and who said it. What most of us don’t know is the story of the man who is quoted here.
Yes, Neil Armstrong said these exact words as he set foot on the moon; the first time in human history. The movie ‘First Man’ shows us the life behind stories of triumph and limelight that surrounded Armstrong.
The story starts with Armstrong losing his two-year old daughter to cancer. Being a test-pilot for NASA, he then enrolls himself for the Apollo program, primarily to distract himself from the sorrow.
As America plans to put a man on the moon before 1970, Neil joins fellow pilots in training for the ultimate journey. His wife Janet moves with him to the program’s residences and spends her days with other Apollo-wives constantly worrying about their husband’s safety.
The movie goes on to navigate through Neil’s journey through the program which turns out to be a total emotional rollercoaster.
The film sequences involving NASA crafts are nothing short of cool. You can almost see yourself strapped to those narrow seats, lifting off of Earth, shaking and rolling the whole time with the actors.
Watching it in IMAX just adds to the whole experience. Intriguing storyline and a good background score keep you hooked through the movie. Overall, a well-rounded experience. A must watch for any space enthusiasts out there!
